Thanks for having Nice at the BBQ. It was really great to see everyone, some of you it's been a long ass time (like 7 years!). Really great to catch up and I wish I had more time to spare for ya'll. It was really heartwarming that some of you came up to me to tell me that you showed up early to catch the band and to see what I was up to. I was really nervous playing, and I started flailing a bit until Sowley showed up and became my spirit animal (love you).

I saw on Instagram a photo of some old farts doing the one-foot-on-the-stage thing. I just wanted to reminisce for a moment and provide a backstory to it, because I saw in that photo that Tony was doing it. The origin of that stance comes from PRFBBQNYC. The stage was weird, if you recall, the edge wasn't just a perpendicular line up to a right angle, but a ramp and the stage was taller than a stage would be. It was a long weekend and putting my foot up on something really helped the pain in my lower back when I stand for long periods of time. I started doing it, I dunno, probably during a Maple Stave set or something. Then, Tony came up from behind me and kinda mocked me with the foot up on the stage-ramp. Then, we just started doing it I think to make ourselves laugh. And then we just started doing it all the time, for love and laughs.

I'm so insanely pumped that one of the Beatrix folks won the raffle EGC this year!

Gotta be honest, this wasn't my scene for a minute there. The in-person aspect I mean. It's neither here nor there, but I'm glad I attended this year.

Watching Tre Orsi and Light Coma play had me levitating. The PENrf event was bonkers and rad. Wish I could have talked to more people more than just "Hey, how are you?" Barely got to talk with night-tools and he brought me a special Scottish bag FOR MY NIGHT TOOLS. Sweetest dude.

Selfishly, my pals in our band Straphanger felt super welcomed and at home here. We don't get to play much, and it was special for us to pedal our wares for the folks in the room that day. I miss playing with those guys all the time, and that was really lovely that they felt comfortable. We started in 1997 for god's sake. Before a few of your were born! I think Mason was born in 2013, pretty sure.

Three Grebes had a lovely time playing, too. But we're all regulars I guess.

Anyway, to the organizers and volunteers and GARTH, thanks so much. Wish Faiz had been there and that old friends were still alive and that's about it.

Definitely the best crowd in several years. I can't help taking note of which bands just load in, play their set, then are out the door before the next band even starts. Didn't seem like there was quite as much of that this time! I've always pushed against the notion that this thing constantly needs to grow or it will die. That's capitalism, isn't it? I believe we should let people find US, and welcome their bands IF THEY APPEAR TO "GET IT". If they submit a fancy press kit and are needing to fill a hole in their tour? Fuck that shit. Music is about the 10th most important reason I attend these (read: it's not very important). And to see the same group of 20 or so people doing literally ALL of the lifting year after year for a bunch of bands who never had any intention of becoming part of it started to get frustrating. This year, for the first time, I didn't do jack shit to help out and it was great! Had so many long conversations with so many people, old friends and new, that it honestly renewed my interest in living in this city. But I'm ready to get back into it in some regard! Let's do something fucked up.
