Re: Band: Geese
53I like them. Not crap.
Echoing whoever earlier said to start with either 3D Country or Getting Killed. Then listen to Heavy Metal.
They will be performing on SNL in a few weeks, good for them, looking forward to it.

Re: Band: Geese
54Listened to album once, the 'Getting Killed' album sounded very NYC-esque and all right to me but the closer to the end I was I the more I wanted the dude to stop signing, sounded like a therapy in bad way. Second time around 4 tracks in I recalled how grating the vocals will become and I've turned it off. No vote so far.

It's interesting and more original than lots of other young bands (nowadays).
It's interesting to see them causing fits among the middle-aged rocker cohort as they (we) try to comprehend these young weirdos.
That's a positive sign as far as I'm concerned.
It sounds like a mash-up of Radiohead, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and...shit, what was that band from the mid 2000s that sounded kind of crooney and the cover had a found photo from like Romania or something featuring a girl sitting against a car? That's the third band, and that's how forgetable these guys are.
Edit: Beirut is the third band.
Re: Band: Geese
57Heather has been into his solo record. every time I hear it I hate it more. his voice and singing style are a war crime.
Re: Band: Geese
58The solo album is fucking great.
Geese is okay, I can appreciate it for what it is, and even when they were in their Black Crowes phase they stretched out on these long songs that were way more intricate and sorta anarchic than they had to be. That’s not the best stuff though, the solo album is what did it for me.
I think it’s possible that Geese has a truly great record in them somewhere, but they haven’t made it yet. We’ll see!

Re: Band: Geese
59Yeah, I hear the Beirut thing in his voice for sure. The enjoyment of this band hinges on whether you "believe" this warbling crooner oversinging every note. Sometimes I do.
There's plenty to not like (in anything) but where I feel like some aren't giving them their due is their unconventional elements. There's an intentional thread of chaos and some rhythmic weaving that from an arrangement point of view is really doing something. You can't just play like that in a paint by the numbers indie rock band. Whether it's neat is up to the listener, but my song arrangement brain feels like they're not getting credit for achieving this off balance thing very skillfully.

But, yes, I think they're weirder than everything else on this list below.

I still haven't really bothered to spend time listening to this band but they still strike me as less bland and less derivative than so many of the other end-of-the-year-Top-Ten-List rock bands.
