I confess to know bugger all about studio work, and my brother's band are thinking of using them.CheersMarkAnyone know anything about this Miloco thing? Looks like some huge assemblage of studios, gear sales, production, techs, rental, everything now. I just saw some goofy win $1000 worth of recording at a miloco studio contest and figured it was a scam, called it as such. Looking at their site, it's chock-full of everything, read about the history of the first studio, but what's going on with this? Corporate buy-out of studios? I don't get it I guess.

I'm not sure there's anything too sinister going on. I work with a couple of the studios that are on their list and I don't think they would do it unless they actually got some tangible benefit (ie a reasonable stream of bookings) out of the deal. Some of the studios are wholly owned by Miloco, some are owned by producers who work elsewhere a bunch of the time and are happy for Miloco to take a cut from any bookings they can get while they are away. From a musician's perspective if you want to book a week somewhere you just ring up and do so, perhaps my "time share" comment was a little misleading.

Pretty modest project, just looking to avoid brutally indifferent engineers and having to remortgage the family house.Everything I've heard coming out of http://bearbiteshorse.com/ sounds great and he's in London.Dropout is on hiatus I believe as they lost the building. I believe Tim engineers in other studios though.Ben Turner comes highly recommended - he's based at Axe & Trap out in Somerset - https://axeandtrapstudios.com/the-studio/ - but works out of studios in Bristol and London too. The stuff he recorded at Hackney Road studio sounds great: http://www.hackney-road.com/Weirdly it might be more economical to go outside London too - you know I love JT Soar in Nottingham. Phil gets great sounds, it's super relaxed and never feels tense or on-the-clock and he's really affordable - https://www.facebook.com/JTSoar/And if you want to go completely batshit-mental and make Dark Side Of The Moon or In Search Of Space then this is like nowhere on Earth, you just have to budget a day to get there and a day to get back: https://www.blackbaystudio.com/

Music Rooms in New Cross, 123 in Peckham, lightship 95 , Soup and Brixton Hill are decent. Outside of LDN Big Jelly is a good room.
