Aren't they Christian?

They're Mormons.

I am not a fan of their music, in that I don't buy it or listen to it, but I admire it, and I admire them.

I don't have that kind of reaction to bands very often. Low, maybe Fugazi for the most part. I can't think of anyone else. Totally substantial, totally worthwhile music made by substantial and worthwhile people. I just don't quite get it for whatever reason.

Not crap.

I just got the Low & Dirty Three 'in the fishtank', on first listen sounds pretty decent. I don't know that much about them I only came to the album because of the Dirty Three link, but this makes me want to check them out.
What's a good starting album?

I think Trust, Songs for a Dead Pilot, and Secret Name are good starting albums. All of 'em are great, though.

Secret Name
Curtain Hits The Cast
Long Division
Songs for a Dead Co-Pilot
Transmission EP

all pretty fine albums - the rest have moments but lack a little of that old time Low juice. Blah, blah, refine the sound, spice it up, whatever - it's not as good anymore. The last time I saw them (around Things We Lost in the Fire or Trust - whichever was first) Sparhawk actually apologized for playing too many slow numbers. I'm not kidding.
Not Crap but stop it already so the waffles don't come a creepin'.

Great albums:
Curtain Hits The Cast
Things We Lost In The Fire

I've never felt they were too slow/quiet, although for a lot of people that seems to be the first thing that comes to mind whenever someone mentions Low. Loud? no...but Hush Quiet? No way. Shit, I was singing along to Dinosaur Act this morning in my car. Can't do that with Rex...

Not Crap

Such a beautiful band. I spent much of the week cursing at the prospect of missing Merzbow because of pre-booked tickets for Low, but rapidly changed my mind when they took to the stage last night (in a church, no less). Those two silken voices, that compliment each other so effortlessly, they really are something to behold live.

SalĂșt, Low, you sexy bastards!

I also saw them in Newcastle on Friday. They were excellent, as you say.

The LOW brought it in Milwaukee last month. Bigsby-equipped Les Paul Standards are GO!

On the strength of this picture it seems Heath Ledger didn't die after all
