I do not honestly remember the first album I purchased but it was very likely a "Weird" AL record or some movie soundtrack

I never owned this record, but everybody I knew did.
It contained not one, but two of the Knack's odes to jailbait: "My Sharona" and "Good Girls Don't."

The first record I ever owned was a 45 of Jim Croce's "Bad Bad Leroy Brown." My parents and grandmother bought me lots of 45's: Sweet, John Denver, Elton John, etc.
The first album I ever owned, as well as the first record I ever bought with my own money, was Jackson 5's Greatest Hits. It holds up.

My first tape was "Knee Deep in the Hoopla" by Starship, not counting my Teddy Ruxbin tapes.
I remember my mom buying "Brothers in Arms" and the cassette was clear, I thought that was so cool at the time.

Three U2 records :
Boy, Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree all at once,
when I bought my first cheap plastic "Sanyo" stereo with record player, age 15.
I had had few cassettes before that.
I didn't care about music till age of 13.
