It's All Around You is brilliant. Crest is fuckin' great, live it is just mind blowing.

I had kind of go bored with Tortoise... what I'd love is if they tried to capture the intensity of their live shows on a record -which tend to be very "studio" based.

I stopped listening after the fourth song. Four shitty songs in a row at the beginning means I don't have to listen to the rest. CRAP.

then again, I pretty much hate all of their albums except for Standards, which is colossal. I, like Tom Petty, won't back down.

i have a japanese cd with the great engrish title: 'a digest compendium of the tortoise's world'. i feel it's the only tortoise i need to own. the rest is 80% crap.

It's good to know even the diamonds have a few flaws.

I did not dig It's all Around You either. I heard it once when it first came out, and, I dunno, I just didn't have anything to latch onto. It seemed competant, but nothing excited me about it. (This may be how non-Steely-Dan-fans feel about the 'Dan.)

It was a letdown from Standards, I thought. (Which, for me, was good, but not quite TNT or Millions, which I have a great fondness for.)
