So, Sonic Youth is displacing Fergie and Britney Spears on the shelves of Best Buy? Do you you think this is happening? It is either Sonic Youth or Them?

The more Sonic Youth in society the better IMO.

So plastering something in every available corner improves it? Why is that?
I hope they make a billion dollars too.

I have no qualms with them making money. Do they have to do it this way?

Props to Thurston for pissing off the jaded core demographic of his band too.

If your band attracts a discerning audience -- one that hates mass-market crap, say -- then why is it a badge of honor to be repulsive to them? Just because? I guess it's "props" and hoo-ray for the current Bush administration then, because they have pissed-off those suckers who like peace and prosperity.

Now that's punk!!!

Now that's bullshit!!!

Anybody from NY go to that Daydream Nation performance at Mccarren Pool show last Saturday? Whatever anyone says about them, that show was incredible. I felt like my entire body was disintegrating during "Hyperstation."

I see there's a lot of resentment toward these guys due to their conduct over the years and comisseration with major labels and all that stuff...but the guitar work is to me still irresistible, especially the stuff up to and including that album.

The Starbucks thing has proven to be a typical Thurston Moore piss-take, no?

moot point, but i'd like to point out that people who cry out "sell out" will be most likely: white, middle class, liberal arts major, have an un-shiftable view that corporations are innately evil, by being corporations.

I don't see what the problem is at all. I don't see any debt/ obligation the band has towards it's audience.

It's tacky at worst (i don't see how it's immoral in the slightest, maybe it breaks some rules of etiquette but that's it) and totally un-deserving of the majority of responses here.
