Finally saw Killers of the Flower Moon. Man, it's long. I treated it like a mini series and watched it in three sittings. After I couldn't think of a section I would cut to tighten the running time.

What a tragic, specific piece of American history. DiCaprio becomes such a perfect idiot who keeps getting compelled to do the worst thing. A character with no back bone. DeNiro was also fantastic and evil.

I'm really excited to see this. From the trailer it legitimately looks really funny.

It’s quite funny. One thing I usually hate about satire is that it’s nearly always made to flatter the audience. Even satire that attacks the audience, still flatters it. American Fiction doesn’t do that.

In the last week, I watched La Ceremonie and The Talented Mr. Ripley, to wash the taste of Saltburn out of my head. Both pretty good, at vastly different budget levels.

Also the new-ish Christian Petzold movie, Afire. Immediately after finishing I know it will benefit from a rewatch. RIYL Rohmer’s Moral Tales.

Napoleon.

Absolutely terrible. One of the worst films I’ve seen.

I had a little window this afternoon so indulged in a lazy watch of Breaker Morant. Still a cracker.

Poor Things is so good. My take was that it was ultimately a coming of age story about discovering, losing and fighting for autonomy. I really enjoyed this movie. And my most sincere appreciation for a science fiction movie set in the Victorian era that doesn't just go for 'steampunk' as it's aesthetic. Emma Stone was fantastic. Mark Ruffalo was so fucking funny. I saw this 3 or 4 weeks ago, and some other really great movies since, and I still keep thinking about it.

I liked Two Lovers, which I hadn't seen before. Very good movie. Little Odessa used to play on the Sundance Channel a bunch back in the day, but I didn't catch the whole thing until recently and liked that a good deal too.

Had a barrel of laughs watching The Beekeeper.
