This is the new tascam studio recording solution. I like that it looks like a standard tape remote. For under a grand it's a 24/24 USB Io with direct SD recording as well. Sort of a useful thing I guess. I do no really fully understand a stand alone digital multi track since you can very literally just use any DAW to do just that. Anyway... Here this thing is.
24 x 24 I/O for under a grand (plus the cost of DB25 breakouts I guess) is a pretty solid deal. You could look at the SD recording as a useful backup or a way to do multitrack remotes without lugging a computer around.

There are no preamps. No cue mixes (only local solo). You still need a mixer. Get maybe like 3 Audient ASP880's and a 4-6 Channel headphone amp in a 4 space rack? Or just this thing and an old Midas Venice 24 for preamps and headphones mixes out of the AUX Sends? Still kinda a lot to lug around. At that point you are close to the cost of a digital mixer with the ability to multitrack, mix live and do your headphone mixes. Allen Heath Qu24 can do 18 tracks, and the SQ series can do 32 to a USB drive. Even the little CQ mixers that can fit on a music stand can do 22 channels at 24/98k, and it's about a grand. At least Zoom is doing 32bit. This Tascam thing seems antiquated and unimpressive compared to other options. It only makes any sense to me if you are dropping into an environment that has a pre-existing mixer and you just want to add a recorder, like as a little venue or something.

one more hilarious thing, from the ad copy:

"Plus, no preamps means you can preserve that bold, beautiful analog signal chain you’ve put so much effort into creating."

Nobody wants preamps fluff'n up their bold, beautiful analog signal chain the put so much effort into creating. Thanks Tascam.

DAWs crash, computers crash, computers are shit, they need updates, they hold you hostage and force you to upgrade the software, then the hardware, and then the software again because it’s not supported on the new blah blah blah.
meh, I'm recording on a Computer I built 6 years ago and have never had an issue bad enough to stop a session. I see the value of having a stand alone recorder and dumping to a DAW to mix, but in my workflow that is just inserting another piece of hardware BETWEEN the mics and the computer and another hoop to jump through. That's just one more point of failure to account for. It's Tascam. It eventually will fail. And I've had plenty of hardware failures.

Not saying it doesn't have its place, it just doesn't have a place for me. I'd probably just buy a Allen Heath CQ18t and use it to multitrack onto SD, get a mixer out of the deal too. This Tascam doesn't do enough for me, maybe if it had some basic preamps it would make a good mobile rig but as is you need 24 preamps to use it.
I am not vouching for the Tascam. The Zoom that I use has a full mixer as well as recording capabilities, and yes, it has preamps.

Yeah, and I have actually recommended the Zooms for people who want these things. I used to Record on those old Akai mixer/recorders and think it's kinda a fun way to do it. My rants are specific to this Tascam rig. I find it dumbfounding and archaic. It stands in where a RADAR would. Something to stand in for a tape machine in a world where most people don't even use mixers anymore. The zooms make sense. Briefcase studio is good.

1000 watt handling for guitar or bass, "A 1000-watt speaker cabinet crafted for musicians who demand power and precision. Sunn Amps intends to reinvent the standard 4x12 configuration with the introduction of this new cabinet."

Interesting, as an unexpected thing for them to introduce.
