I am not a Beatles fan at all, but they're alright to me. However, what is super fucking annoying to me is that they're, seemingly, THE sacred band. If you express your dislike or indifference to them, people think that you're trying to be "cool." No dude, it would be cooler if I was super into them, then I can jaw-off to people about how much we love our favorite band, The Beatles. Instead, I'll be like "Have you heard [japanese indie rock band]" when trying to talk about music I like met only with incredulity or blank stares. It would be MUCH easier if I loved the Beatles as much as people other people say that they do. In fact, I got so much flack from people about not being into them that people thought that I was making it my personality to dislike them. Why can't people be subjective about them? I understand their impact, but people need to fucking CHILL with them.

I think this has to do with the fact that a lot of ordinary people aren't into music as much as they like to project they are, and 'liking The Beatles' makes that job easier. As an added bonus they get to pretend they know more than other people do, or gaslight people who ARE into music that not liking The Beatles means your taste is somehow inferior.
