This is a shot of the two cats I had since they were kittens.
The black one (ringer) had a white ring of hair that went around her neck just like a natural collar. She was born in the spare bedroom at my old house, and she spent the first year or so of her upbringing as the companion to my childhood dog, who was cool as shit.
She had a lot of the same personality as he had (and was fearless, as cats go). When he passed, we got a kitten... The white one was that kitten.
Ringer died about 2-3 months after this photo, of old age at 17.
The white one (klondike) was a total scaredy cat, and in this photo, she is a millisecond from bolting out the door and tromping down the hallway at Mach 4.
Here is better shot of the second cat when she wasn't to freaked out.
She is also deceased now.
Old age did her in at the ripe old age of 16, about a year or so after her "sister".
She was losing her winter coat and this must have been later in her life as
a) she was in the "get that fucking comb away from me" era
and
b) I had a digital camera
Neither of our cats had any run ins with snakes or killer ticks.
I don't know how you Aussies deal with all that shit.
