Shit ringo, I hope your friend will be OK. I have spent some time on placement in intensive care recently, and I'm sure the doctors at your end are doing all they can for her.

if you recall, my new short boss likes to shorten everyone's name to the "familiar." if your name is jonathan he'll by default call you jon; robert = bob, kristine = kristy, etc.
my son (11) and wife were talking this morning before work/school. my wife asked my son if he'd been up to my new office. then my son asked my wife if she'd met my new boss, michael, who, you surmised, goes by "mike." she said that she hadn't yet met him. my son then followed up with "when you meet him you should say 'nice to meet you, michael.'" god bless him.

Her girlfriend was sleeping in a nearby room. I left her a note saying "If you need me to, I will watch your dogs."
This is pretty awful. I hope she is going to be ok.
jesus christ. sorry to hear that.

I am Back in Banbury (there's a bad AC/DC cover title for you) and it does look uglier here.
But I had a wicked send-off.
I left the bar at 3.30 this morning, the owner making me tea and not charging for the large amount of booze our little party drank, and walked back to my flat, slept for an hour, showered, had a short but lovely chat with flatmates, then got the U-bahn to Schonefield. I was back here by 2pm, and it feels very, very strange.
Edit: Just read your post Ringo: I am so sorry to hear that; it is horrible and wrong. I hope she has a full and speedy recovery.

I once used my roommate's toothbrush to scrub the gunk off the underside of our toilet bowl. I never told her, but there was a certain sense of satisfaction that would wash over me anytime I'd hear her brushing her teeth.
Amandroid--This karma thing she is lost to you. But do remember: If you meet the Buddha walking down the streets of sunny Calif: Kill it.

I turned 36 today. I can remember when my father was 36, I was in high school. Ugh!

alright.
so my new short boss is using his boss's assistant, K____to get his reimbursements all taken care of; you know, mileage, lunch with prospective clients. i, fortunately am not an executive assistant so it's not within my scope of duties to handle this stuff. anyway, K____ was going over his reimbursement request and noted that at one and the same time he claimed to be in two different places. he had a receipt for lunch at 12:15 pm and also said he needed mileage reimbursement for a meeting that took place at the same time 45 miles away. he came up with some reason for this physical impossibility.
i was thinking today that he's gone from the office a LOT. i mean, he has to go out an meet people and schmooze, etc. i like it when he's gone so i check his calendar and note when he will be absent.
i just cross-checked, because i'm a suspect sonofabitch, when his calendar says he has an event to the website of the association holding the event. while the event takes place the same day, the times are wrong. i decided to check another event, same story.
i knew from the beginning there was something very shifty about my new short boss.

It's pretty grim.

happy birthday! I turn 37 on saturday.
I'll probably be working...
When my dad was 37, I wasn't even born yet.
It kind of puts things into perspective...raising kids is hard work.
