Wasn't aware of that one but I'm mildly interested now. No one really needs to spend more than $100 on a 'transparent' OD.TylerDeadPine wrote: Fri Oct 28, 2022 9:35 am All that Klon talk in the 'gear I hate' made me buy an on sale MXR fat sugar drive because I missed what the Soul Food did and I appreciate the stoutness of most MXR stuff I have. Plus the pink will match my Balls Sustainer. $80 for a hot pink pedal no matter what it does is worth it.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
552Yeah it rejects quite well, which was part of my criteria because I was using it in a pretty loud environment on a swiveling stand, and needed it to be able to be moved around and not feed back. I also tried the Sennheiser e604 but the lightweight plastic housing picks up a lot of vibration and has weaker rejection based on my experiments. The EV PL35 has a nice heavy housing and doesn't pick up rumble frequencies like the Sennheiser. I have a Beta57 and while it is decent at feedback rejection, it's not magical and I think half of its rejection ability comes from being kinda low output.Garth wrote: Fri Oct 28, 2022 7:41 amOoh I appreciate the rec - I think EV makes a lot of outstanding mics that get overlooked, but unless I can find it used, I might "know a guy" who can give me a deep discount on the Shure to where it would probably be less than new price for that EV.ChudFusk wrote: Thu Oct 27, 2022 6:45 pmMay I suggest the EV PL35 as a cheaper and probably-just-as-good option? I've tried a bunch of tom mics on vocals and I like this betta than the Beta.Garth wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 2:54 pm After this weekend, I really want to get a Shure Beta 56a for drummer vocals when they're needed. It's shocking how much bleed there is with a SM58.
I think the main consideration for me is rejection of outside noise...maybe even more important than sound quality tbh. SM58 has a shocking amount of drum/cymbal bleed and really hoping to tame that as much as possible. Do you happen to remember if that EV has a comparable amount of rejection from the sides and tail of the pattern?
Now that I think about it, I have a few Sennheiser e604 maybe I should test this out.

553Another EV zlx12bt powered speaker.
Thanks to FM Garth who recommended these to me, this is my third one and it has been great actually being able to hear the singer at band practice for once in my life.
If anyone is looking for these (p or bt) they turn up used on the Guitar Center website fairly often in the $215-350 range. Not bad.

554Agreed - there’s some internal switch too, I think to change the buffer or something. I have zero interest in chasing the “transparent OD” dragonpenningtron wrote: Fri Oct 28, 2022 9:47 amWasn't aware of that one but I'm mildly interested now. Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
557I’ve been working a lot of overtime and found two mics at a good price:
The Audio Technica AT4060 tube mic - I wasn’t really looking for one of these but I was looking for a nice vocal mic and saw this listed for a good price.
Electro-Voice PL2 - i hope it is as similar to the RE20 as people say as I used one in a studio before on guitar, vocals, and bass and liked them
Altogether it was more than I was planning on spending, but if they’re not complete dogs I should be able to get my money back should I decide to sell.
Any thoughts on either of them?

558Do you mean the PL-20? If so it's literally the same as an RE-20. Different name and paintjob.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 11:35 am Electro-Voice PL2 - i hope it is as similar to the RE20 as people say as I used one in a studio before on guitar, vocals, and bass and liked them

559Thats it, the PL20, thank you. Yep same shape and everything. That’s what I heard and wanted to confirm.

560Those two mics are quite different from one another for a large pile of reasons. If you were wanting to pick between the two and get a rec, it'd be helpful to know what your planned application is as well as what you currently are lacking in your available mic selection.
