when you do nothing productive all day expect nothing to come to you. I should take my own advice.

today sucked ass. the one highlight was screaming along with "blockbuster" in lieu of anything else to do. or rather, in lieu of anything else I should have been doing.

edit: after thinking about it, this humble pie album performance: rockin' the fillmore is pretty kickass. "I Don't Need No Doctor" is great. what a rhythm guitar tone. it's like perfect '70's. the entire thing reminds me of the kind of R & B demolition work on the early small faces stuff, except updated for the early '70's.

i woke up. walked to the bus station. this bus station is on a very busy city road. a large truck containing smashed granite or rock or some such thing burled down the road and must have bumped a small bit. 2 massive large peices of dangerous whatever-the-fuck flew out and struck the bins left out for the bin men the night before. the bins were cleared out.

so glad this was early enough in the morning for people to still be loving their beds.

Today I really want to get som ework done. I wanted to finish this 2nd essay off by Friday so I could hand it in and forget about it over the holidays but I have ZERO motivation. It's annoying me intensly. I've done SFA since Saturday which was plenty of time if I'd just knuckled down and got on with it.

I have to work in the shitty bar tonight. Maybe I'll swing by the uni and do some work before that. There is no reason on earth why I shouldn't!

Maybe it's something to do with the fact I am going away in a week and I know I'll have enourmous fun and hate my own life even more than I already do. Bummer.

Okay..a bath will motivate me right?! I can do this in 2.5 days right?!

Dear God, please write my essay for me. Amen.

That's very kind of you but if you really were God, you'd know what it was on since God is everywhere...

Is it about blood testing? Angina? Gram stains? I can help with all of your biological needs.

Sadly no. It's a boring, reflective piece much favoured in the nursing profession. The module being Domains of Nursing. I am basically writing about how mental health nurses dealt (or didn't deal) with a schizophrenic, mute, elderly patient whose 25yr old hip replacement became dislodged. Basically they didn't very well because they don't know a lot about that sort of thing. Fair enough, they aren't trained to know all of that BUT my point is, why didn't they send a trained member of staff to the Orthopaedic dept with the patient/liaise with that hostpital in some way so as to ask why they had been nursing her incoreectly, what might be the best plan of care and why? etc...

There is the small matter of pride and professional rivalry here i.e. RMNs aren't 'real' nurses. Unfair but they don't help themselves when they cloister themselves away like that, plus, it's not fair on the patients goddammit!

So, yeah. I'm writing about that. Thanks anyway!

Amanda, Melvins? NYE? Oui ou non? How is the weather in SF now? I'll be there in a week. Wahoo!

Weather right now is slightly misty and British. It's 50+ degrees American.

I look forward to seeing you, and drinking with you. Keep your fluid intake high, lady.

I forgot to post this on Friday so here we go. Hope the humor in this makes sense to the rest of you.

I work for Chicago Public Radio as a Master Control Engineer. Most days I work early and often mix the live show 848. Friday I worked a bit later so I mixed Worldview which is also a live show. The staff of that show barely had their shit together by the time they were to air and I did not know what to playback when. So I snarkily commented to Jerome the host that "just so you know I am not the producer or director of the show".

The hour went by and Jerome was reading the credits on the air. When he got to me he said "...and just so you know, Graham Hick is not the producer or director of Worldview, he is the engineer of Worldview". This cracked me the fuck up because they always sound so serious and their topics can often be very heavy as they were that day so it was very unexpected.

Here is the audio if you want to hear it. The mp3 is safe for download.

I spent the last two weeks working in Mexico. Staying in beautiful houses, personal chefs, pools on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean, stuffed Zapatista dolls ...

Coming back was rough.
