I had my hair cut for the first time in nine months or so. Just a tidy up. It took twenty five minutes for the two hairdressers to get the tangles out of my hair. This was actually quite pleasant. I'd never had my hair long enough to require such effort. Hippy!

I may have mentioned that I got one of these as a Christmas present:
I just made the first pot of espresso in my office. I was on the phone with a client when my coworker came in. He smelled the espresso and said, sotto voce, "did you make coffee?"
I nodded "Yes," and pointed, meaning "Have some of my wonderful new espresso from my new espresso maker!"
So, I went back to my call as he poured out some milk, sugar, and about five shots of espresso, thinking this was just regular coffee.
I didn't realize what had happened until he started speed-IMing me and I opened the now nearly-empty espresso pot to pour myself a shot or two. Uh-oh.
Now he's alternating between sending me an IM every two seconds and popping into my door to say "Wow... I'm REALLY WIRED!"
yes.
yes, you are, Travis.

Made an enormous steak pie for dinner with roast potatoes. ENORMOUS.
It was great.

I went to work today at the TKC estate, and was told that I needn't have come in today, since it was my boss' husband's birthday. I was mildly annoyed because I am feeling quite crappy and could have used an extra hour's sleep.
On the way back to the subway, I stopped by Lush because I had heard they were having a sale. And what a sale it is! Everything in the store is either buy one get one free, or buy one get two free. I got a lot of soap, some of the facial scrub I like a lot, and shampoo bars.
As if this weren't enough, I decided to (wisely) use my day off to clean my kitchen so I might actually have a work surface on which to use my nifty new rotary trimmer, etc. As I cleaned off the tile-top table, I discovered a Ziploc bag full of 20 boxed rolls of expired Kodachrome 64. I managed to score a shitload of Koda a few months ago, and have been rationing it out to myself because I want to use it on the good shooting days. This past week I used what I thought was my last roll of the 64, and I had to short it because I ran out of light (shooting at dusk) and I felt bad.
Now I feel like I have a reprieve, at least for another month or so.

First workday of the new year (for me) and OF COURSE I have that whole achy sinus, hot-n-puffy face, scratchy feeling eyeballs, nose running like a faucet THING going on... and that's *with* doses of 'Wal-phed PE' every 4 hours. Gyurg.

It's been a gorgeous day, chilly but bright and clear and with piles of fresh snow sparkling in the light. My birthday, and I decided to Try New Things instead of sitting on my ass all day and reading. A roommate and two friends were going cross-country skiing on the mountain, and I was cajoled into going along on my first such outing.
Mighty struggles ensued, which gave me new respect for the GI Joe character in the white outfit and red beard who's always skiing up and offering alpine suggestions to the rest of the Joes. About halfway through one of the friends took a nasty tumble and wrenched his already bad back, so the rest of the afternoon was taken up with returning skis at the chalet -- packed like a stockyard and full of poorly behaved children -- and finding the guy's painkillers. I just got in the house, chilled to the bone and exhausted, and am drinking whiskey and wiggling numb extremities.
