someone told me, though i've been crawling the internet and yet to find verification, that b-real from cypress hill is planning on making a mixtape where each song is done by him and some unknown rapper. you have to send your demos to him if you want to qualify as one of the unknowns. but the idea of him just selecting you isn't enough; to make it, after being selected, you must pay up a sum of over $10,000, plus more if you want an original beat on there as well. i suppose the deal is, it's good promotion.

but over $10,000 a track? this dude is going to make over $100,000 off of his guest artists? who, by the way, usually expect to be paid (or their label does, for a "courtesey of X records" mention... whatever none of these dudes will be signed anyhow).

but like i said, i haven't found verification on the internet just yet. found info on his myspace page advertising the project, suggesting that the site visitors turn in their demos to be considered. but no mention of "well, there's a catch"....

Will Barnett wrote:I then one day, in a burst of caprice, decided to go to youtube and look up ICP videos. I was absolutely disgusted but also founds to a certain extent I actually LIKED this music: given the criteria of hip hop a lot of it WAS good. The beats were all at least serviceable and no more gimmicky than Wu Tang's (one has kung fu samples the other has carnival samples). The words were absolutely abhorrent, but just as witty as the Beastie Boys. The message was terrible but no worse than Wu Tang, NWA, or MOST other rap outfits.
The only explanation I can have for this is that you have no fucking idea what you're listening to.

Jesus.

A) Wu's beats are not gimmicky. Kung-fu samples are only used as intros and outros, while the bulk of the beats are based on soul samples, flipped in simple yet extraordinarily visceral ways. RZA's production changed rap and film music.

B) The Beastie Boys aren't witty. To be as witty as the Beastie Boys is like being as emotionally resonant as Dashboard Confessional - it's the mere simulacrum of the real thing.

C) One who actually knows anything about rap would think of "C.R.E.A.M." before claiming that the Wu has the same message as fucking ICP, because he would realize that dropping such a sentiment would make him look like an idiot.

NWA is also revolutionary in sentiment; this tends to be lost on people who don't actually think about rap.

Rap has gotten dumber and steadily more worthless for nigh going on 20 years. In fact, some rappers deliberately try and sound like they are retarded. Retarded nursery rhymes. They're still going on about their clothes and cars and jewelry. Rappers have no obligation to be positive or socially responsible. But rap is no better for how stupid it is.

They are not rap, what are you talking about?
They have maybe 5 songs in their entire catalog that show a even little bit of 'rap' influence.

Kool Keith has produced some amazing albums over the years.

No he hasn't, he's made (did vocals on) one good one and one halfway decent one and one with a few good songs.....the other 500 records he's done are absolute shit in the worst way
