Aside from the personal exchange above, this thread seems more or less dead. But since I missed it the first time around, I have to say I was very impressed with Steve's work with Will Oldham. When I first heard Arise, Therefore I thought that's pretty much how I'd like my stuff to sound if I ever get it professionally recorded - which is very unlikely, but a girl can dream, can't she? At least if that ever comes to pass, I have something to use as a reference.
I've honestly don't think I've heard many recording made at EA or by Steve, so it's hard for me to judge. I do like the Shellac, Nina Natasia and other Oldham albums as well, but it was Arise, Therefore that really impressed me. I don't think I had heard anything Steve had recorded since In Utero at the time (and that was around 1999), and I really didn't have any opinion on his work up until then. I'm not good at paying attention to those sort of things. I just know what I like when I hear it.
