It's not completely representative of all of his work. But this song makes me crazy.

I add:

Wishbone Ash
Rites of Spring (I have a weird mental block with this band. I've heard one of their albums half a dozen times and I never remember it or recognize it. Maybe I just don't like it.)
Townes Van Zandt (I think I own an album by him that remains untouched.)

<snipped list>
Can
Neu!
Atomic Rooster

Who would recommend any of this, please speak up and convince me.

I can recommend those three highly. Very groove-oriented 70s prog, all with psychedelic tendencies to varying degrees, ranging from dreamy minimalism with Neu to a pretty varied catalogue of heavy hard rocking with Atomic Rooster.

I particularly love Atomic Rooster.

The Ex. Wow, they were great. I'm on a quest to find more. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I second this. I had heard a few songs prior to that show, but holy damn, The Ex were terrific live and I want to know more about them.

I've never heard Minor Threat, nor have I heard Rites Of Spring. That is just plain odd, considering that I lived in D.C. for 2 years with a bunch of D.C. music geeks and a straightedge boyfriend.

-Aphex Twin
a "must-hear" - I would start with "drukqs"
-Anything beginning with "DJ" (Shadow, Spooky...)
If you like old shool hip hop without rhymes.....
-Squarepusher
I prefer Aphex Twin

for those who fancy jazz but still hesitate: check out the german band "Bohren & der club of gore". jazz for doomheads. awesome.

This will be embarassing.

WIRE

You know that cover of "Strange" by REM? That's the closest I've gotten to hearing Wire. Pile on, everyone.

Until about a year ago, the Go-Betweens, which was a sad oversight.

Until about two years ago, the Birthday Party. JHC I would give my ( ) to see this band play live.

This board was the spark that introduced Shellac and Silkworm to my turntable, both of which turned out to be good decisions.

Many of the bands people haven't listened to are/were favorites - Dino Jr., Sebadoh, Sonic Youth. Still have never heard a Naked Raygun song.

It's sacrilege here, but pretty much Punk itself. My impression of the movement* was that fucking annoying American kid in school who listened to Rancid and the Misfits and acted like a real prick. Constantly.

Husker Du was my intro, and this board has been fucking outstanding for delevoping my tastes. Salut!, I guess.

*excluding the Sex Pistols - but i've only heard God Save The Queen, and it's ok.

These are bands I have heard talked about greatly over the years. I am fairly certain there are some i would really enjoy and some I could probably do without.

Crass
The Dead Boys
Boredoms
7 Seconds
Circle Jerks
Black Flag
Bad Brains (I realize this is beyond reproach, I just don't know where to start)
Dead Meadow
Earth
Fudge Tunnel
