It had a disorientating effect at first for me, too... then I grew to love it.

Just check in with it from time to time, you might become a convert.

It's ridiculously character-driven, so much of the funny comes from knowing the characters. The first time i read Get Fuzzy i didn't get it for the same reason, and now i think it's hilarious. Not as hilarious as Achewood, tho.

it's a real slow burn for some people.

First two years is really drawn out character development, anyway. he hits a great stride a bit later.

If you get thru five or six episodes of the Great Outdoor Fight and you haven't laughed, then you have reason to forget about Achewood.

I didn't laugh at that. I smirked once but that's about it.

I have the afternoon off work so I'll go try that Great Outdoor Fight now.

Perhaps I just don't like/get comic strips. I don't remember ever laughing at one. Well, maybe that perry bible thing.

Nope, sorry. Got about 20 strips in and it's just not funny. You guys are all smart and funny so I think I must just suck. This is not funny at all. Not even like a crap sitcom where you see the joke but it doesn't amuse you. I don't see what's funny.

Do all the "Achewood" readers know that, if you drag your cursor anywhere over the text of the comic and hold it there (without clicking), a little commentary from Onstad re: that particular strip pops up?

Today's was good.
