My first band was called Patterns of Age and consisted of myself playing bass, a guitarist (my older brother), and two of our friends. We called ourselves Patterns Of Age because there was a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior in the band...we were really clever. We had about 20 original songs and covered god knows how many, everything from Corrosion of Conformity to Rancid, and played like four shows at friends houses and community centers. All of our original songs sounded like late era metallica, except when we covered early era metallica. We were awful. After that fell apart when my brother left for college, I started a band called Carl Winslow with two of my friends in which I played bass and sang, we were a typical pop punk thing and I wrote songs about such topics as Duck Tails, and girls. Then after that I started a band called Medal for Merit (awful name) which I played bass and sang in. We sounded more like NOFX gone nu-metal. I'm asshamed of that band. Though, every now and then I whip out the VHS recording of one of Patterns of Age's practices. Me and my brother get into a sick fight and he punches me in the top of the head, I then proceed to quit the band, and then twenty minutes later, I walk back in the door, pick up my bass and start playing along with the song they were playing. ha.

My first band got reviews like this, in 1999:

"Hey, as long as we're sharing the Luv, I thought Jodi's stun-guitar-
and-No-Wave-rap version of "Step Right Up" was pretty impressive.
Reminded me at times of Suicide, the Velvets, Lydia Lunch and others
of that ilk.

I was also very conscious of the fact that we could all have been in
serious trouble if Jodi had been using her noise powers for Evil instead
of Good."

and

"Burun had the art noise thing going on with Jodi being the full on rocker.
Minimalist skronk from Jodi and the finger picks on her left hand while
the lyrical recitation played around the music. Metal Machine Music lives."
I make music/I also make pretty pictures

First band I was in was called Raw Shark. We thought the name was an amusing nod to Watchmen, psychiatric testing and 'street' lingo.

We were a thrash, speed outfit and I was the 'singer'. I wrote a song about Pot Noodles called INSTANT DEATH.

Thankfully we only lasted 2 gigs and the internet was just a twinkle in a geek's eye.

my first band was called baby harp seal, we played from 93 - 96 when we broke up because of egos (mostly mine). we played kind of emo music, but not really - we were into hoover and fugazi and heroin, and two of us had a led zep fixation. we did a few 7 inches and one album, which i still listen to now and then. some parts make me cringe, and some parts make me nostalgic. with hindsight, i'm quite proud of it. it was what it was, some lads in their early twenties being a bit pretentious. sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. I was gratified to see on last fm that someone is still listening to it on their computer - i don't know how it got there because we only ever released vinyl. happy days though, happy days... As someone else wrote above, it put me on the path i'm on now, nearly fifteen years later, and has, so far at least, given me a nice, if impovershed, life.

My first band was called Blackout, I played guitar. I was in Grade 5 at the time. I showed up to our first practise with my Sears acoustic guitar, and only upon realizing that unamplified acoustic guitars can't really be heard over drums did I consider buying an electric guitar.

The only song we could play was "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down.

My first band, which I formed when i was 13 was called Hazzard, and we mainly played Sunshine of Your Love over and over. I do vaguely remember one original with a lyric that went 'Itssss raininnnnng...'
We never gigged, but judging by the amounts of noise complaints we recieved we didn't need to.
