so, the thing is the speakers, right? i was thinking about a 2x12 with two speakers with big wattage rating or something like that.


I have been through this, trying to optimize my setup for baritone guitar with heavy bass.

A 2x12 or 4x12 with a half-open back and at least 75W speakers will work OK for both. You will notice less low end when you play a typical bass line, but it won't be terrible.

A half-open (or half-closed...) back will allow a reasonably full-spectrum sound--it will have more low end than an open-backed cab but a wider, flatter response than a closed back.

If you have a closed back, it will be tuned for either gtr or bass. You will either lose the low end on the bass and fart out the speakers or have the boomy guitar sound you don't want.

Hmm, so basically, closed back cabinets aren't good for the speakers?
I guess that's because the air is being trapped in the box and pushing the speakers forward. Could this harm the coil or just the cone?
