Congress is there to be the voice of the People.

This is another line from propaganda in public education. "They're here to work for us."

It's not propaganda, it's truth. That is the way our system was designed to operate. Because it's not working out that way doesn't make it untrue. People choose to vote the same corporate-connected politicians into congress and have not made lobbyists (and their control of the political process) a huge concern. Until that happens it will be more of the same. In some respects, you get what you deserve.

It is propaganda, disguised as truth. When our "founding fathers" said it's the voice of the people, they weren't talking about us. This is the way language is manipulated for a desired effect. They were talking about their people, the slave-owners, land-owners. We are the subjugated ones.

Oh, poor you. Sorry dude, that's a cop out. We no longer have slaves and anyone can own land. You have much more power. Quit bitching and start exercising it.

And some men have millions killed in the name of keeping a country together. I know my history. I wish the state would've seceded. Life would go on, and much less men would've died.

If anyone is interested in Bernays, the great Adam Curtis did a four part BBC series called Century of the Self that covers Bernays. It's all on Google Video.

link to part one, from there you can find the rest:

With the differences between North and South...you don't think there would have been ANOTHER Civil War??

Look at Europe, dude. They fought all the goddamn time. The country needed to stay together, or America could have easily imploded. I like you, but you've got no vision when it comes to history.

Of course, there could've been a war futher down the road, maybe even a peaceful resolution. The civil war had a hell of a lot to do with the banking establishment. They funded both the south and north.

What exactly am I supposed to envision? A benevolent leader that does good for his people? I haven't come across one of those yet. I try to learn from the mistakes I see people making. More us should pay attention, and not sweep it under a rug, or try to whitewash it.

I could, but I don't hang out in the 'burbs, dogg.

P.S., taking my "Democracy fails you every day" quote out of context, certainly it looks like things are dire here in the TC. Mostly, though, I'm just using a quaint metaphor for the fact that our leaders care very little about the people of our nation as a whole. I understand it is a ridiculous statement.

You should seriously check out his work. It's not just on selling you shampoo. He goes into politics extensively.

I know Bernays well. Thanks for the link, though.

And "democracy fails us everyday" isn't that ridiculous. At least you don't carry on like say...me.
