Anybody here buy this? I was outbid. I tried to lowball it at $310. It ended up at $381. A good deal for this mic but not an exceptional steal in my opinion.

I almost bid on it. I was sitting there looking at it, thinking I could probably nail it for something relatively cheap. But then I decided I should make some more music before I extend my mic cabinet. Besides, I already have two very good ribbons.

whatcha got?

Got them reallly cheap. 180$ (shipping included), had to re-ribbon them, it came out 280$. A steal if you ask me, considering they're almost 500$ each nowdays.

That. Is a good deal. Did you get that on ebay? Recently?

Good for you. I'd like to have one or two of them things.

These mics sound AMAZING.

Which ones exactly did you buy?

Do you have anything to A/B them against? (Royer,Beyer,RCA)

If you don't own any high end ribbons maybe you could borrow one and A/B these fatties against it. I love hearing impressions from unsponsored A/B tests.

Fuck shootouts from magazines, those people are being paid. Either in free gear or ad revenue.

We may have a shoot out in the A room some time in the next week or so.

These are really the first ribbons i have ever owned, so my point of reference is more what I hear when I stand in front of the drums vs. what cames through the monitors.

I am running the ribbons as room mics at roughly the same height as the drummers ears and I have a D112 pulled back from the head of the bass drum.

The drummer is playing a single ply dotted head on the batter and has an Ambassador with a hole cut in it for the resonant, so I tuned it down to get more rumble.

I may post an .mp3 of the track we recorded last night, but i should warn you... I have CRUSHED the mix, because the band really loved that sound. It's a bass and drums duo that does a droney stoner thing, a la Earth or Sleep. The song is 11 minutes long, and the mix is rough as hell. Very shiny high end, too. They loved the sound of the mix being crushed by the SSL compressor plug in.

Still, the kick drum sound is remarkable coming through all of that.

er.... I just got 'em.

Any chance you're going to be in the area at any point?

Here's the rough of the Subrig Destroyer song.

Very rough mix by a neophyte engineer, but I am really enjoying the drum sound.

The drums were tracked in a 14' x 18' foot room with minimal acoustic treatment- bass traps in the corners and on the reflective walls, a riser stuffed with Owens Corning 703 and a linoleum floor.
