There is only one man in rock for whom that is not schtick at all.

I have that record! I bought it just for the cover. That's the one with Wango Tango on it, right?

Let me clear up some misconceptions and offer some trivia...

No one in Neurosis uses spears for hunting. Too inefficient.

Bed Bath and Beyond sucks for linens, although the cookware section has a good selection.

The guy who first did live visuals for Neurosis once had a job as Chuck E. Cheese. Knowing this, I will never take my kids there as I do not trust an establishment that would hire someone like that guy.

Tom Waits is fucking awesome and you are all a bunch of internet forum music snobs who think it's "cool" to not like an artist if they have a large body of very respectable work. (but you knew this)

    I really like Shredded Wheat.

Warrior/survivalist/hunter/tribal etc - it's a state of mind and a way of looking at life and family, (a la Nugent) but we never made heinous music like Damn Yankees. We win.

:D

Tonight! Alright!

Trying to get 3 tickets lined up for this was a stone bitch, with their damned anti-scalping type rules they had in place... so I procrastinated, and then in the end, of course I had to pay some scalping peoples anyway... and my party of 3 does not get to sit together... which is kinda lame, but fuck it - what were we going to do anyway, sit and have a conversation through the show? No.

I hope Pockets understands, and isn't too bummed that he has to sit by himself, but I think he is actually getting the better seat (actually on the center orchestra level, a few rows in front of the soundboard (which ought to count for something, sound-wise, eh?), not way off to the left or right, and not in a balcony nose-bleeder), although I hope he isn't jealous that my lady and I will be in "Fox Club" (mezzanine/balcony) seats with drink service, etc.

I just want everyone to have a good time, dammit!

It's a done deal if I can stay with the frightening shirtless guy from The Conformists.

Wha-?

Having destroyed their car, John Lurie and Tom Waits must now travel across the island by canoe...

Sweet-ass show - but FYI...

(Is this going down at each stop on the tour...?)

:?

Not the end of the world, but it would have been nice to know about prior to getting inside the door...

Various members of the staff were overheard saying they had never before seen an artist pull a move like that there... I imagine the bartenders/servers/etc. were not enthused at all about potential tip money they missed out on.

ANYHOW - it was still a pretty damn cool show. :D

You guys are crazy. His best work is pre-1980. Here are the highlights from three albums; Nighthawks at the Diner, Small Change, Blue Valentines:

Upon A Foggy Night
Eggs and Sausage
Nighthawk Postcards

Step Right Up
Invitation to the Blues
Small Change

Romeo is Bleeding
$29.00
Wrong Side of the Road
Whistlin' Past The Graveyard.

So, so fucking good. My two favorite post-80's albums were both released in 2002; Alice and Blood Money. Solid the whole way through.

Just listen to Alice.

Other honorable mentions are:
Earth Died Screaming
God's Away on Business
Chocolate Jesus

Tom Waits is such a good song writer. His stuff rings so true within the little world he created. I'm jealous of him, plain and simple.

I am one of the few Tom Waits fan's who likes his asylum stuff the best
I really like Small Change. Bones Howe recorded Small Change live, straight to stereo tape. Two mics straight to tape thats it, off to the mastering house. And that album's got strings galore, its not just a straight jazz trio. It sounds amazing. To commit to the sound in the room so completely, thats just beautiful.

I guess I can understand not liking Tom Waits' music, but not admiring him as an artist and maker of sounds? Are you are just way too fucking jaded to have a good time ? At the very least his work as co-producer with his wife over the past 20 years should be enough to gain your respect. He knows what he wants, he hears it in his head and he makes it come to life. thats rad. I wish I could do that.
