Absolutely loved this book.
I can't remember what grade I was in now, but I had lugged my copy of this to school with me, and the teacher checked it out for a second and asked if she could borrow it when I was finished. I was still young enough at the time that this severely blew my mind.

The band was a hell of a lot better than the book, IMO.

the story of a curious dragon-like "aminal" that eats children's dolls. A kindly old man named Bobo cannot stand by and allow the Funny Thing to steal dolls from children. He entices it to eat "jum-jills," a concoction he makes up from seven nut cakes, five seed puddings, two cabbage salads, and fifteen little cheeses, all rolled into little balls. A happy ending is assured when the Funny Thing discovers he loves jum-jills and is convinced that they will make his tail grow longer and his blue points grow more beautiful. He returns each day for the treats and never eats another doll
This looks totally great. What a beautiful cover.

Also, I had at least five or six of those 'Tell Me Why' books that were never read cover-to-cover, but I could always grab one and flip open at random and learn something.

I only remember really, really liking one book as a young reader. It was called The Pushcart War. No idea who wrote it.
Other than that, it was all like books of Garfield or Heathcliff comics, or Choose Your Own Adventure books.
Then later on, I found Catch 22, but I was in highschool by then. Maybe still my favorite book.
I don't like books. Never really did.

A Wrinkle In Time, Watership Down, and 1984.
Those 3.
(Edit: I was 11.)

I still love "Hi Cat" by Ezra Jack Keats.
As a child I used to copy the pictures (quite badly).
It involves cats, ice cream and dressing up as a box. What is not to love?

It was great. I may still have it somewhere.
Also, I loved anything by Mercer Mayer, especially this one:

I Am A Bunny by Richard Scarry
"I am a bunny. My name is Nicholas. I live in a hollow tree."
My dad read me
The Hobbit when I was 4. I was obsessed with Gollum and Smaug.
A few years later, I was obsessed with Twin Peaks. I dressed up like Audrey in grade school, right down to drawing on the mole beneath my eyebrow.
My cousin Brenda lent me this book while camping when we were 10 or 11ish years old. I loved it, especially since Brenda and I were in our occult phase at the time and reading tarot cards and casting astrology charts and such.
