My parents are into the most horrifying, barely-there jazzbo shit you can imagine (piped all over their little house via satellite). I don't even know what the genre is called (smooth jazz?). Wow.

Anyway, every once in a while, my dad will go absolutely apeshit for a pretty good record. ZZ Top's Eliminator, for example, is probably his favorite record of all time. Sort of makes up for him owning the entire Huey Lewis catalog (yes, even the more recent ones)...
there is only one clear path and it's paved with bacon.

The head chef at the kitchen where I work is your classic fry-up king. A close -cropped haircut he hasn't changed since he was in the navy, chainsmoking, broad Isle of Wight accent. Whilst off-work he habitually wears nothing but tatty old Portsmouth FC shirts and he is almost certainly an alcoholic. Anyway, normally the radio blares out whatever radio station, ranging from tolerable to things that make you want to stick your head in the glass washer, normally Radio 2 or Wave 105. Anyway, one day, he announces during some cookie cutter R&B song I can't remember that he's 'sick of this crap' and puts a cassette mix on. First song was Hawkwind, then Hendrix, MC5, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, so forth. He's also really into hard science fiction. It's semi-bizarre. Then again, there was a dude I knew who at school who was a rabid pompey fan who would rabbit on for hours about Iain Banks and Alastair Reynolds and would only listen to old metal and hard rock. He joined the navy. It could be a pattern.
