It is cheaper to go out in Milwaukee, though it's not really worth the cost of the fuel it would take to drive from Chicago to Milwaukee. Other than that, your view of Milwaukee is spot on--same stuff to do but less of it, and with more cliques to deal with and rampant alcoholism and obesity.

I'll probably never go to Milwaukee again unless I move back to Wisconsin, and even then I'd probably just drive the extra 100 miles south to Chicago. It was cool when it was just a little over two hours away from home and offered a temporary exodus from Bumblefuck, WI but there's absolutely no other reason to make it a destination unless you're visiting friends.
