you can't ?

cause 'yer not p.mccatrtney.

As good of a litmus test as any.
Other little things that always struck me is when he tosses in a "wrong" note. I'm not sure, but when he goes to the D in All My Loving, he's worked outside of his key for a split second - that's why he hangs on it instead of walking around like he does in the rest of the song. Theory be damned, because it sounds great, but it shows that he could reconcile theory with what sounded good to his ear.

Also, I can't imagine how Paperback Writer must have sounded in it's day. Tonally revolutionary. The way it was recorded (using a mirrored speaker as a mic), the fact that they had to cut the grooves of the 45 deeper so the stylus wouldn't skip out of it, and just the fact that it's a creative bass line.
There are many more like this.
The man redefined bass playing.
The Glynnis Johns test can be applied repeatedly.

I am not even going to attempt to think of a better guitar solo than the one in "Taxman". Or a better bass-part than the one on "I Want You (She's so Heavy). Hey, until recently I didn't even know that the drumming on "Back in the U.S.S.R." isn't Ringo's. Bitch about "Obladi-Oblada" all you want, but who else pulled off a ska-tune in 1968?

Paul McCartney, in his prime, could dip in to pretty much any musical genre, toy around with what he would find in there, and pull a perfect song from that. You may think he's a dick, but I put it that you can't do that.

I also put it to you that McCartney carried the rock star burden a whole lot better and with greater dignity than Jesus Christ Lennon.

Paul McCartney is a better musician than most of my favorite musicians. A far better musician, even. He is a natural. Yes, he's too conservative for my tastes. And yes, his fixation on harmony often times leaves me unimpaired.

But Paul McCartney is by no means crap.

Anyone ever heard the live version of Wings "Hi Hi Hi".

Great rockin' tune.

Lemme quote:

"Well Well, Take Off Your Face,
Recover From The Trip You've Been On.
I Want To Lie On The Bed,
Get You Ready For My body gun.
I'm Gonna Do It To You, Gonna Do It,
Sweet Banana, You've Never Been Done.
Yes, I Go Like A Rabbit, Gonna Grab It,
Gonna Do It 'Til The Night Is Done.

We're Gonna Get Hi Hi Hi With The Music On."

Now if you really think Lennon is infallible, I implore you to listen to the steaming pile of shit that is "Walls and Bridges".

Jet is just about the best song. I turn it up loud, and it makes me smile and feel all happy inside.

McCartney with the Beatles: Godly.

McCartney without the Beatles: Crap, with a little bit of a WF. Of course, the song "Darkroom" is itself enough to make me pretend not to know him.

helter skelter was cool but this guy just sucks otherwise.

i dont care if he was part of one of the most successful bands of all time... anyone that can shit out "ebony and ivory" after being carried by john for years just totally sucks.

his songs are nothing more than the most basic pop we have all grown up with, he has no feelings, the man writes hits and that is about it.

You are incorrect.
