I'm building another one of these now.

elisha wiesner wrote:Just finished this one. It's a custom order for FM Kevin Burkett and I'm really happy with how it came out. Rosewood back and sides and a Sitka Spruce top. Koa binding and a Mahogany neck. Very similar guitar to the Redwood topped one I finished a couple months ago. It's based on a mid 30's Gibson Roy Smeck Radio Grande Hawaiian guitar only set up for regular playing. I'm loving these and am going to build at least one more of them this winter. I am very late to this party but I am extremely psyched by this guitar. My uncle owns about 5 Roy Smecks (stage deluxes and radio grandes) and they're some of my very favorite guitars of all time. I'm currently making a Brazilian Rosewood guitar where that wood was asked for. It is also going to have a specific nut width and neck size/shape. The rest is up to me. I've had several where people just told me to do what I wanted and several where things were spec'd out by the customer. I have a fairly decent stash of guitar wood and wouldn't use any wood that I didn't think would be good, even if someone requested it. Things like nut width, fret size etc... are all totally customizable. I guess everything is really. I can also shoot for a specific sound although wood choice would definitely factor into that.

Nothing fancy, but neded something I could use for bass & split up when we need the synth - finishing up these this week. San diego seems to get really nice plywood. Love that you can build two of these with one sheet

I saw that thing and it looks cool but yeah, you'd have to build that guitar. I've never used a bending machine but wouldn't mind trying one out.

Don't know if this is cool, or a good price, but there's a AE Overholtzer side bender for sale in Minnesota.https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 104630828/
