Oil is in our national interest also. It's perfectly ok to have national interests and to want that oil rich area of the world to be politically stable. If some of you say "well, we need to cut the dependence on foreign petroleum", then I say get rid of all these godawful stupid restrictions that prevent more drilling here in the U.S.! I'm all for that.

When does it end? It will never end.

This is not about national interests or "political stability". This is about making rich fuckers richer while killing tens of thousands of innocent people. I'm willing to bet that Jesus would not approve.

When does it end? It will never end.

Syria: probably naughtier, just as sneaky and evil - no asswoopin, instead, ignore them.
China: just as naughty, sneaky, and evil - no asswoopin, instead, MFN.

The list goes on. Just call him President Consistent Application of Principles.

Or President Sleight of Hand:

WASHINGTON, April 7 — Three months after the United States successfully pressed the United Nations to impose strict sanctions on North Korea because of the country’s nuclear test, Bush administration officials allowed Ethiopia to complete a secret arms purchase from the North, in what appears to be a violation of the restrictions, according to senior American officials.

The United States allowed the arms delivery to go through in January in part because Ethiopia was in the midst of a military offensive against Islamic militias inside Somalia, a campaign that aided the American policy of combating religious extremists in the Horn of Africa.

Oh, you mean that Ethiopia has US permission to cross its border and interfere with the civil war in Somalia, but Iran is going to get nuked for getting their feet wet in the civil war we started right next door to Iran? Well, it's just a good thing that we didn't catch Iran shipping Soviet-made weapons to Ethiopia- then there'd be real trouble. That's the kind of shit that can slow down democracy.
