Embarking on a "don't fuck it up" session...REVISITED!

i have one of these sessions coming up. i've got a little bit of time, but it's a 5 piece band that wants to record live with minimal overdubs. they will also need a guide vocal and they will all probably need headphones. so i've realized i'm short a couple pairs of headphones, a couple mic cables (maybe), and i'll need at least one more headphone amp. i'm also going to need one more mic. my plan is to 'charge' the band one beta 52 new or used. i've been using a 421 on kick, but i want to free up the extra 421, and i've been wanting a beta 52.i've heard the two songs we're recording. i think they are iPhone recordings. lots of dynamics, lots of quite passages and the drummer is doing lots of sprinkly stuff on cymbals and snare. there are also 2 guitars, bass, and keyboard.the scratch vocal needs to be drenched in reverb, so i need to make sure i have my aux sends all figured out. pfl etc.

Embarking on a "don't fuck it up" session...REVISITED!

Starting one of these in February, which is going to be probably the most ambitious project I've recorded by myself---but all the people I like recording with in town are all retiring and/or busy and learning how to record my own band has been pretty rewarding even if I have no ambition or desire to be Mr. Professional Engineer Guy. The room we practice in is great for drums, but doesn't have much to offer in the way of gobos or isolation so we'll track drums to scratch guitar and bass and overdub those later. Posting here because I always like to see what people are using when they're DIYing it. I have a small stable of cheap-but-respectable mics, and Chris is loaning me an M201 and an M88 so fuck it, let's do a thing. 1. KICK IN - AKG D1122. KICK OUT - Modded Nady Ribbon (I usually put this above and away from the hole, about 4-6 inches off the head, about even with the beater)3. SNARE TOP - Beyer M2014. SNARE BOTTOM Sennheiser e6095. RACK - Beyer M886. FLOOR - Beyer TG-50X7. SHOULDER MIC - Oktava MK-3198. FOK MID - Cascade Fathead9. FOK SIDE - Cascade VinJet10. ROOM L - Rode NT-5 (ORTF)11. ROOM R - Rode NT-5 (ORTF)---12. BASS - Sansamp DI13. BASS - Beyer TG-50X14. BASS - Oktava MK-319---15. GTR L (Soldano) - Cascade VinJet16. GTR L (Soldano) - Sennheiser e60917. GTR R (Park) - Beyer M8818. GTR R (Park) - Beyer M20119. GTR Pretty (Super Reverb) - Oktava MK-319---20. LEAD VOX - Beyer TG-50X21. VOX Double - Beyer TG-50X21. Backing VOX - Oktava MK-319---22. Extra tambo/shaker/vibraslap/whatever - Oktava MK-319 + 18 pack of Tecate.Hopefully I don't fuck it up. If I do, I'll hire someone else to mix it and it will be their problem.
