Just want to point out that I actually like the more affordable Arturia Microbrute over the bigger Minibrute. There's lots of control for a reasonable price. They seem a little tougher too.

I've been looking around on reverb and ebay, and those microbrutes are a great deal used! $200ish is as good as it gets for a real analog with that many panel controls. You might be able to find some vintage stuff for around that price, but it will take some digging, and you will give up all of the panel controls. A few synths are worth some menu diving though, especially some of the old ensoniqs and rolands. If you are cool with the toyish stuff, I would add the korg monotrons and gakken sx-150 to the already mentioned korg volcas.

The Microbrute only has one oscillator, but it allows you to shape that wave in all sorts of really really killer ways. Plus you get to modulate almost all of those controls. I'd love to have one one day, but gear is not a priority right now. I'd love to have one with a voltage converter to interface with my MS-20. If there were such an affordable stand alone converter, those two would make a devastating pair.

The eq in the thing is bold, it takes pedals well, and I'm sure you can find one under $200.

Hey. Is there a thread I should be looking at for my amp hunt? Kerble me. "uncool amp" "cheap amp" blah blah blah.Anyway. I've never much looked into guitar amps. Right now I'm trying to downsize/right-size on amps. I've got a Traynor TS-60B which I'm finding just about perfect for the guitar, light and easy to move, plenty loud but not preposterous, nice clean sound, not mellow and not thin.... At the moment I need a *second* amp of comparable size and temperament, and I'm aiming for the $0-200 range. My rule of thumb is, if I don't like it better than the Crate G-60 I've got here, which, joke away, but frankly I've found pretty responsive and decent-sounding clean in comparison to some stuff, well then it'd be insanity to buy it. So I didn't care for the Vox 55w bass amp (SS 1x10) I touched last night, the GK 75w head I've got isn't quite to my own taste and I'm tired of having the 4x12 cabinet for that anyway, blah blah blah.I guess I'm assuming there must be plenty of SS combos from the last 40 years with uncool badges on them that might fit the bill. Let's max out the size at 2x12, smaller is totally fine. Let me know what will beat my Crate. (Photos of burned cars, or dog shit on concrete, while amusing, probably won't help.) Thanks much in advance.

These recommendations are exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for. Man, I love the Tech Room. Thank you. And keep `em coming, if you don't mind. Thanks again.

60's solid state Standel amps show up in the $200 range from time to time and are awesome.

I'd like an amp to compliment my existing rig, for those times I fancy a bigger sound.Currently running a '76 Orange OR120 into a '79 SVT810, minimal FX (mainly just a boost)Should I be looking at other EL34/british sound amps? 6V6/6L6 Amerian -style for contrast? Something weird and SS? I have plenty of cabs to put something through (and also have the option to turn the 8x10 into a stereo cab very easily)Thanks
