In high school I used to own a bootleg vinyl copy of The Wall called The Film with songs recorded directly as they were heard in the movie. "Nobody Home" contains a sample from the docudrama, The Dam Busters, where a dog named the n-word is called. Startling. I still like The Wall but then again I'm all about drama.

Not for nothing I've had "Matilda Mother" stuck in my head all afternoon. Rick Wright was pretty cool.

anybody know the name of the song that is in the movie the Wall but not on the album? it’s the animation part and involves the “camera” moving around the wall and then it turns into the screaming face? i remember 12 year old me thinking that it was the greatest song of all time.

i don’t get the love for WYWH - i think the title track is great, but all of those shining on the crazy diamonds is too much.

Meddle is great other than the dog howling song that makes my dog bark.

Piper is fantastic.

Next to Animals WYWH is my favorite PF record. Again, back in high school an erstwhile good friend who is currently a rabid MAGAt lived in a mini-mansion across from a sprawling golf course. In the winter it resembled an otherworldly frozen tundra. I had a dream one night that I remember to this day: creatures not unlike the things on the album cover to Mob Rules would slowly rise out of an icy sea, move across the land, then sink back into the water. And for some reason, I can't remember if I actually heard the song in my dream or if hearing the song reminds me of the dream, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt. IX" always brings it back to mind. It sounds remote and mournful. Such a beauty.

Same. It always struck me like they were trying to do DSOTM pt2 but couldn't get there.

I watched the video of the other song and was like “this song sucks” and was wondering how I could have thought it rocked, but yes, this is it right down to the video with the wall turning into the screaming face.

Put on DSOTM during a long drive this morning. I forgot that Gilmour was my first proper guitar hero. Not enough for me to do anything but fiddle with some guitar lessons in magazines and have a brief love affair with delay.

Probably 15 years since I last had any interest in PF. It's really solid stuff.

The Wall was there for me when I was an adolescent and going through adolescent stuff. It wasn’t long before punk came along and sorta wiped the slate clean. I think now in my mind I associate The Wall with a lot of juvenile self centeredness, which may be an unfair take and I should listen to it again and see how I feel. Haven’t heard it end to end since probably 1985 and I bet I still know every word, every note.

This album is NOT CRAP NO WAFFLES. It's production is perfect, the performances are flawless, and the lyrical content and themes are timeless. This is one of a handful of albums and songs that can instantly bring me to tears it strikes my feels so hard. I try not to be too aggressive anymore with these C/NC discussion but this is one example where I can say "fuck the haters".

This album about turning 30 turned 30 the same year I turned 30 and that's when it's messages and themes really clicked for me. And while I love their earlier works I consider this their first of 3 masterpieces. To go from AHM which is ok, to Meddle which is good and verges on great at times, to Obscured By Clouds which is also ok, to suddenly turning in the awesome with DSOTM, WYWH, and Animals is quite the stunning leap in quality for me.
