I got a call from the restaurant today. They want to start the hiring procedure. My plan is to get there. I will walk or take a cab until I get a bike to ride. I have to go down to the restaurant tomorrow to get the employment packet. I ate a celebratory turkey sandwich and told my folks who are in Florida. I got five Dylan discs from the library, none of them the greatest hits, for the trip before footballs.

Last night I finished Nikki Sixx's Heroin Diaries. I guess that is a good thing but the drug usage was too much and the prose was crap and repetitive. On the other hand, fuck Whitesnake and Axl Rose. The anecdotes were great. Dude considered his diary his only friend. And he had some crazy idea that record labels shouldn't be predatory and actually work with there bands. This is 1989 we'ar talking about.Cocaine made him crazy and Heroine made him scared for his life and kept him in his walk-in closet.

I went to the local college and sat around, called my brother and looked for a Sharon Olds poem that I thought was called, the american way, but is really titled, The Solution.

When did Gibson start putting shitty squared-off frets on, like, all their instruments? It wasn't that way a few years ago.

Both, actually. Everything I saw yesterday was square all the way across, both uncrowned at the top and unbeveled at the ends. Bizarre. (Edit: and uncomfortable when sliding one's hand up the neck. This reply brought to you by a 3AM feeding.)

This week, I am starting a pre-course training program (through the union) to become a certified crane operator. I will have to wake at 4am and drive 100 miles each morning to get to the training center. I'm not looking forward to the drive. In the Spring, I'm required to attend month long/8 hour a day training classes. Hopefully, gas prices will drop dramatically by then. I won't hold my breath.

In a fit of nostalgia, I decided to download and install Quake 1 and play through the first level again. It is still fun!

Yesterday, while loading up gear at the practice space, I had a sudden bout of dizziness and nausea. I was able to load up the gear in my car, then sat in the driver seat and started my car up.

After about 10 seconds, I felt like I was going to throw up.

I got out of my car, and threw up my breakfast in front of our practice space.

I made it home (still very dizzy), then had my fiancée bring me a bowl to throw up in.

After about an hour, I felt completely fine. The only thing I can think of is that it might have been some food poisoning from the ranch dressing I had with some deep fried pub pickles at a bar on Friday night. Besides that, the fiancée and I had eaten all the same food Friday and Saturday.

I felt fine for the rest of the day, drove down to Seattle, and played a pretty decent show.

So I have this bag of salt in my kitchen.

It's a muslin bag, with SALT stencilled on it.

Problem is, I don't know if it is the kind you can cook with, or if it is the treated stuff for foot baths or driveways or whatever.

I grabbed it at school, because someone was throwing it out. "Hey, it's rock salt!" I said, and I was excited because I like to cook with rock salt on occasion.

Only after I brought it home did it occur to me that it might not be edible.

Is there a way to test it out, without eating it, to see if it's really salt, or salt + additive?

I guess if I can't find out what it is I will just use it for a photo shoot and throw it out.
