Along with being a good mystery thriller, it takes a kind of Wire-style view of the justice system in America and how it brutalises people and is set up to convict them. John Turturro's the co-lead (along with Riz Ahmed) and his performance is one of his best.

It's fucking stellar. I wish everyone could see it.

Me and my housemate watched the first two episodes of Scavenger's Reign last night and we're all in. Can't wait to continue it.
Already watched The Night Of, and you're right that it's great. Guess I'll skip the rest of Your Honor.

Eric

The gritty Sesame Street-based drama that you've been craving. Oh, and Benedict Cumberbatch's American accent is a lot better than it was when he was doing Doctor Strange.

Thanks for recommending The Night Of, which I am currently binge-watching like there's no tomorrow. Story, cast, dialogue...just wow!
Again, thank you so much.
This thread is so much better than Rotten Tomatoes or the like. Who needs that stuff when I have the mighty PRF?

Patrick Melrose. Holy crap, this is the Benedict Cumberbatch series on Netflix you need to watch. He's not trying an American accent, and a half hour into the first episode, it's crazy-go-nuts. In a good way.

The original UK series was called Criminal Justice, which is a bit on the nose but explains where the author was coming from.

Godzilla Minus One was pretty cool. If you're down for a Kaiju this is one with more well rounded cinematic sensibilities. Lots of post war Japanese cultural reckoning, like maybe the bonsai spirit had some problems.

Really liked Hit Man. It’s kind of amazing that a piece of pure entertainment could be that thought provoking, because if you take it at face value, it’s morally and ethically dubious (at best!).

"So how do you solve this problem?"
"Execution."
"That's ruthless ... but historically, potentially the right choice. There's been a lot of scholarship on this very subject recently. And the new thinking is that these kind of targeted killings actually play a larger part in our social evolution than previously thought. This impulse to weed out these destabilizing forces is likely a dark thread in our historical DNA. These killings were thought to have served a twofold purpose: they not only protected social coherence and norms, but also eliminated a certain kind of abusive and uncooperative person from the gene pool."
"Excuse me. When did our professor get hot?"
"I know."

Presumed Innocent. Based on the Scott Turow novel. But updated from its original mid-Eighties setting (one major divergence from the original plot is revealed at the end of the first episode).
