We set a small amount of relief to account for the way the string vibrates. If you have a good ('generally' good would be +/- 0.002" fret to fret) fret job, this works well for most players.

Like this crude ass caveman drawing:
Thank you. Makes perfect sense.
I had my two favorite strats on the bench today, the one that's been to my guy measured about .005" relief, the one that hasn't measured about .009". I tightened it to about .006" and that seemed fine. .003" doesn't seem like much but it made a big difference.

Larry Cragg is big on ‘no relief’ except for players that hit hard.
What is relief?
The opposite of straightness in a guitar neck.
I knew you would tell me what's what. Thanks.

Dammit I just traded a Classic Vibe for a late 70s Yamaki Strat in a beautiful aged pink plus a little cash. I'm supposed to be getting rid of them.

This is true. I suspect the CV is a better guitar but the pink captivated me. I saw it in person a few weeks ago and will go pick it up Monday.

CVs are also widely available. You could replace this one with another one very very easily.

Maybe I should make another thread about wanting to sell gear since you don't really use it, but not really having anything you want to buy instead. Like "talk me out of owning this" or "justify me selling this" or something.

Kinda want a 6/8/10 set of Rototoms. Have we forgiven the 80s yet for the proliferation of these?
