PogoLab Compressor

It's a $25 compressor pedal, probably identical inside to any of the other very similar looking pedals out there. Supposedly based on the Ross compressor circuit. I'm using it on bass to run on the bridge pickup when I do Rick-o-sound dual amp stuff with my 4003. Neck pickup is going through a Boss LMB-3 compression/limiting.

It does do a polarity flip when you engage it, so be aware of that if you're using it in a dual-amp setup.

Can get kinda squishy sounding if you lay into it. No real noticeable low-end cut, which is what I was afraid of with a pedal this cheap, but I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm just using it to tame my sloppy playing when it comes to dynamics, and it's working fine for that.

Audioscape 1176D

It does that growly bass sound you’ve heard on a million recordings perfectly. I bet it would be great on a DI, but I haven’t used it for that yet. Really stoked. None of my audioscape gear likes the inserts on my Midas mixer, so I just run the compressor after the preamp during tracking or after the convertor and to whichever desk channel on playback/ rough mix.

I’ve used it a lot for vocals, and I like it, but it’s a bit trickier to set… with their LA2A you can set it where the meter is just bumping a little here and there, but with the 1176, it jumps up a little more, say 0 to -4 db at peaks instead of 1-2 on the LA2A. I think all of that is exactly how you would expect the much faster 1176 to behave vs. an LA2A, plus I am recording myself.

I also did the 1176 to LA2A trick on voice and it sounds pretty good.

Haven’t used the compressor for distortion or special effect compression. There was one time where I preferred an RNC over the 76D on acoustic guitar, but that’s it. Acoustic I tend to prefer the LA2A so that it sounds like a 60s Sound Techniques record or something, but I’ll keep trying the 76. Very happy.

Edit: my entire reason for buying this is because I’’ve been interested in the 1176 since I began researching how Andy Johns recorded Marquee Moon

I keep finding more to love about the Sequential Pro3 - unlisted as a 'feature', but added via firmware is patch 'Morphing' which I know the Polybrute does. Elated the Pro3 does as well - for a band setting being able to gradually change from say, a beautiful soaring lead to complete decimation is nice to have!

Ignore my stupid face, here's a video I sent to my bandmate with some sound examples, sliding between two totally different patches with the touch pad or on a knob. Tons of fun.

I had it running through a memory man, forgot that part - but it really IS glorious. It feels like an instrument, not a 'workstation'. There's so many good sounds without digging much, and then you dig and you're rewarded. It is DEEP. At a base level it's like, you hit a key "oh that's nice", and then you start doing something and there's so much complexity available, but you can dial it back to really nice rich sounds. And at the end of it all you can try each of the three filters and get a different flavour.
There's so many good synths out and coming out continually, that I don't know if history will assign as much significance to it as I would. To me it's one of the few new things I've bought that I feel years from now people would look at it like "Of course it's a classic".

Traded a couple of unused pedals for a Reeves R1 1x12 cabinet. This thing is massively overbuilt without being too heavy. It even has metal inserts for the back and speaker mounting screws - which makes swapping the speakers the easiest I’ve ever experienced. It came to me with a 70th Ann. G12H-30 which sounds surprisingly great in this cab. It’s a bit underpowered and has a little too much top end for my current needs, but was impressed none the less. Have a G12-65 coming out out in there.
