Took an Acela from Philly > Boston last month. It was about 6 hours? I feel like all-in, considering the overhead of security, transport to the airport, stress of boarding and the general unpleasantness of flying, Amtrak still had the edge over air travel.

Even though it's a little longer than the optimal high-speed train distance: a theoretical Chicago Union Station to New York Penn Station in 7 hours? Yeah, I'd consider it.

I wonder if we'll see it in our lifetime. We'd have to keep Republicans from controlling the government for a long time.

I don't have an "individual responsibility" issue with Mamdani flying instead of taking a train. Fuck, I fly. A lot.

However, for him, it is a missed opportunity. More high-speed rail won't be built unless there is perceived demand for it, and Mamdani is about as high profile as anyone to help raise awareness of it.

You know who else made this comment about Mamdani flying, in addition to that questioner and meeting and our own FM OE? Laura Loomer.

The optics are what they are because of the decades long marketing campaign making us as individuals responsible for saving the environment.

They could have done the meeting by Zoom, or Meet.
