Oh I am fully expecting your next Mamdami post to be as insane as the others. A lot of people here are plainly annoyed by anyone to the left of Amy Schumer, whatever, it’s just part of the fuckin’ ecosystem.

Naw, I just live here and stuff and actually follow local politics, as opposed to cults of personality and attention-grabbing headlines.

So pardon my heavy skepticism. We already saw this once w/De Blasio.

Can't say for sure, but I wonder if you thought Obama was amazing out of the gate? Bought into all that snappy "change" rhetoric, style over substance stuff?

One of my beefs w/Mamdani is that he's actually swerving center-right on developers and policing. To the point where Trump openly praised him for both!

Again, I fully concede that I'd love to be all wrong about this.

Your Homeland Security tweeted about the answer being remigration. Your country is rapidly slipping into facism and your democrats are goose stepping, so please please please, vet your socialists properly so that they don't use aeroplanes instead of trains. Times line these, those things really matter.

Once again, I voted for the dude. He was the best option by far. But I guess the party line (or is it non-New Yorkers on the internet?) frowns on being critical of or slightly disappointed in one's choices? Trump is already praising this so-called socialist re: Mamdani's police commissioner (Jess Tisch) and making concessions to big developers (an underhanded move that the City Council has warned against). That stuff matters a lot if you live in NYC. So the taking-a-plane-instead-of-a-2.5-hour-express-train-trip is just a bonus. The guy isn't even in office yet, so we will see.

But signs are pointing to just another politician making promises he either can't or never intended to keep. Or, more charitably, getting molded by the system.

Perhaps those are just early gaffes? I do appreciate that he's dismissing a bunch of the previous mayor's cronies.

Also, Homeland Security is federal, so Mamdani's not really gonna make a huge dent there even if he wants to. B/c he's a city-level mayor. But never mind the details...

I like what the guy represents a lot. I'm just not sure he'll be able to deliver is all.

All you can do is vote for the best, or least bad option every time.

As for being critical, it proves we aren't in a cult. The only problem is some of our fellow voters seem to exist in a binary between wearing someone's face on a t-shirt to never voting for anyone ever because they're "all the same". My guess is that many of us have seen column one turn to column two and it spooks people that a fragile coalition might not survive some down to earth skepticism.

As for Mamdani, if he delivers ten percent of what he's promising, he'll still be transformative.

Yeah, I get that Mamdani can't do anything to DHS, but where I'm getting at is that "the left" there doesn't have many strong figures, and when you finally get one people will purity test them to oblivion before even taking the office.
And why I put the left in quotes is because your left sucks ass and apparently has even less solidarity than Europe's.
This is the time to unite - even with unlikely allies - and eat the rich.

Mamdani seems a fairly milktoast social democrat from this side of the pond. I’m not sure why the word Socialist gets used, but maybe if you squint the city hall owned stores could be regarded as socialist, but most of his policies wouldn’t raise an eyebrow amongst mainstream centre right politicians in continental European countries.

If the American left are going to engage in a circular firing squad over someone that’s finally broken through with pragmatic social democracy they’re making a massive mistake.

I don’t know, it seems like you spun out and made a few posts over an article.

What developers think Mamdami is going to be good for them? I’ve looked around a couple times now and it seems like the only real estate guys happy about that election are smug chuds in Florida.

I was an Obama-bro excited about his new presidency after eight years of George Bush, two wars, and a financial crisis, yes. I was also radicalized against liberals by the end of his first term. I should stop voting for them actually.

Meant to post something in regards to what my Finnish comrade is trying to draw, but I will post my amp in the small projects thread on other sub instead.

This fight is really lost in the USA.
