Okay, according to my maps, if we meet at an equidistant point that'll put us about here. I'll bring the eggs.

I guess that'll do. I guess that'll do just fine.

I would particularly like to hear the story about you riding the Amtrak train with Rainer Ptacek, Angus Jung.

Did this coincide with your Homeric Grand Tour?

tortoise.

i'd just discovered them on the "lounge ax" compilation. their contribution. "restless waters," was so strange, unlike anything i'd ever heard.

Got everyone beat here.

10 Years ago I was 18 and a total Youth Crew kid.

Favorite bands on earth were Gorilla Biscuits and 7 Seconds.

I will still listen to both.

I definately find my b.s. detector has been tuned to a sharp point though.

i found that working in a record store did the same for myself.

Back then, New Adventures in Hi-Fi was their latest work. So things have gone downhill since then, but still NC.

In 1998, I thought music was a largely a waste of time. That's not to say I didn't like it, but I could enjoy a song like "Zoot Suit Riot" if I'll recall. Just to clairfy, I was a junior high student in a sheltered Catholic school.

Most of my time was devoted to Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64 and watching The Simpsons (not crap).

I don't really even think I had a favorite band at this time, unless Sugar Ray could be considered a band. Actually, I may not even have been listening to that at this point. Well, in any case, CRAP.

In 1996 I was 22 and 23 and still listening to a lot of holdovers from the '80's that I got into when I first discovered punk but my tastes had evolved towards some types of metal, a trajectory I am still on to this day. My absolute favorite bands in 1996 were the Melvins, the Jesus Lizard and Fugazi.

Today, in 2008, the Melvins, JL and Fugazi are still in my top 5 but my favorite "current" bands right now are probably Torche and Om, two bands that came out of two bands I was listening to in 1996, Floor and Sleep.

So, yeah, I guess like a lot of folks my 20's kind of solidified what I was buying and listening to and that now as I approach 35 my record collection isn't all that different from when I turned 23, except larger and more worn out, and that most new releases I buy have something to do with bands I loved in the 80's and 90's, if I am not buying older, used records by bands I already know about but passed up years ago like PIL or Joy Division.
