In some places, it is very bad, but when I saw EX/Fugazi/Shellac there twice, the sound up front ( without the 100 ms bounceback of the snare hitting you in the back of the head ) was really, really good. Maybe it is much to do with whether the sound guy is brought by the bands, and wouldn't shellac maybe arrange for that ( do it )?

The surcharge I just paid for my Stoollac ticket is five bucks less than a 2-day Pitchfork pass.
wetf.

fwiw, I think that was the old number.

P.ork tickets last year cost $25 for 1 day or $35 for a two day pass.

still, a complete bargain. I have a pretty good idea of the payscale since we did the headlining booking last year at work, and I'd argue that the bands are paid completely fairly and its pretty 'punk' in action as far as I'm concerned. my friend mike organizes it, and he's great. he does the jazz nights at the hungry brain, which are often good and the entire staff of P.ork is basically musicians helping out/roadie-ing for and working with other musicians.

I don't think anyone from pitchfork was really 'in charge'. it's pretty great, actually. it's a lot of hard work, and everyone doing it has been pretty gracious.

no more of your stupid badmouthing of this festival.
kerble is right.

Wait 'til they play the Hideout, Velvet Lounge or the like. Guaranteed to be a much better experience. Also, one that happens almost once a month.

So, 55 bucks for a Stooges/Shellac ticket huh? Is Sting making a guest appearence or something?

stay home. you live in atlanta. this festival is not going to be the greatest thing on earth, but it's better than sitting at home dreaming up insults to post on the internet while sitting in atlanta.

Large Neurosis-style beards? If so, I'm in. Actually, I've read really good things about Sam Beam (?), but have not made it to the listening to them stage.

erm... no, not neurosis-style beards. eh, the other kind. the really big kind which depend on acoustic guitars. but not in a bad way. go find an MP3.

Stop picking on Atlanta. All of you. It is a good place. And not far from Athens. Athens means Cinemechanica and Maserati. So by default-- Atlanta is nice. All I really know about Atlanta is that The Drunken Unicorn is the best all-ages venue around besides the Cat's Cradle.

I do realize that you were pointing out "sitting on the internet" more than "sitting in Atlanta"-- but Atlanta gets more than it's fair share of shit from this board so I am predisposed to defending it's honor.

Yeah, they are good- listening to the stream from their site right now. I thought it was going to be some Will Oldham-type sound, but it's poppy. As it turns out, I had heard them, because I've seen Garden State a couple of times.

The Tribune reports:

Opening night will be devoted to "legendary" rock, rap and experimental music performers, each doing a "classic album" in its entirety, a festival spokesman says.

Perhaps PE does Fear of a Black Planet? Anyone want to guess the other two "legendary" acts and their albums? I'd love to see Wire do "Pink Flag."
