if hot snakes were 12 and started a band called retarded against the machine...it would sound just like Be Your Own Pet. i saw them open for Sonic Youth in ATL and i t ALMOST ruined sonic youth for me because i was so insulted by that band

I was sure I've seen you post something to the effect of 'if you didn't like the yeah yeah yeahs, you'll hate be your own pet'.
Clearly I'm wrong, but the quote, whoever it belongs to is spot on.
This band, which has been called 'Fresh, exciting and original' isn't fresh or exciting or original at all.
Their sound has been heard before in countless other bands that were much better at it they these guys are.

I know I'm just hammering on at the same points that have already been made and only serving to perpetuate the continuation of the thread, but I was feeling sorta left out.

Now I feel sorta dirty.

This can be said of almost every other band.
Who cares.

I have 24 songs by them and whenever I put them on you should see my old weatherbeaten face light up with joy.

I think they are doing some things right.

You're almost right. It wouldn't matter if they weren't overhyped and boring as hell.
I'd be okay with them being boring, if only they weren't being avertised to me as "Fresh, original and exciting."
When I hear that I want an act that really is fresh, original AND exciting. Not some watered down shit I've heard a million times before done much better.
There is just no point in listening to this band. If you are, you're wasting time.
Unless of course you can't be bothered to seek out this better music you're hearing about so much, in which case I guess it's excusable to listen to Be Your Own Pet. Just keep letting the NME or whatever tell you what you like.

If you don't read the NME, then I apologise for being presumptuous, but you might as well be.

Edit: Just out of interest, do you like fireworks? Watching dogs chase their tails?
