Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell style.

I love this song so, so much. I refuse to cover it because I cannot do it justice.

If I did though, it would be like the Urge Overkill version.

You can do better than that, Jodi. I saw Shelby Lynne sing the absolute shit out of "Wichita Lineman" once (she covered "Mother," too--Lennon not Danzig--a real blood-curdler if you know anything about her family history).

Also, Sammy Davis, Jr.'s version of "Wichita Lineman" is totally funky and great. It's on his Something for Everyone record on Motown, which depicts him on the cover surrounded by twenty or so reclining ladies. He does a great "In the Ghetto," too, in which the background vocalists sing the melody and Sammy just interjects hep asides throughout.

I never thought I'd see the day where I saw Trent Reznor singing a Pere Ubu song. I mean, it makes sense, kinda... I mean... they're both from Ohio... and um.... yeah, I got nothing else to say really.

yeah, you see the youtube clips?

dreadful.

and the peter murphy solo effort video?

equally dreadful.

you can do a song in fun, but make it a fun song.

don't ruin a fucking great song for your own artistic wankery.

"Eat Lead" by Breaking Circus.

"Speed Racer"

"Eisbaer" by Grauzone

"Bloodstains" Agent Orange

"Theme" Savage Beliefs

I was in a band that covered a cover. The Raybeats doing Link Wray's Jack The Ripper.

What other examples of covers of covers exist?

Uh oh. Full disclosure time. Yet, I have become senile.

Well, once we did "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" with yourself at the board.

the ending theme to "Wild, Wild World of Animals"

"Escape From New York"?

Those were all on records...

then these weren't

"You Only Live Twice"...

Uh, "Uncontrollable Urge" with Iain Burgess...

Oh wait, "Spanish Castle Magic" with an 8-string Hagstrom bass a few times...(I remember doing a song with that bass in yr basement once and you complaining on the talkback "It sounds just like Kings X")

But covers....I swear I can't remember any more. Am I gonna feel stupid?

Color me flummoxed. Or tired.

I've realized you don't do many "great" covers being in punk bands.

Misfits - We Are 138
Attitude
Black Flag - Gimme Gimme Gimme
Reagan Youth - Degenerated
Operation Ivy - Knowledge

I was in a grindcore band who covered You Suffer by Napalm Death. We thought it would be funny... it kinda was.

Songs I've covered and recorded to my 16 track:
Misfits - Astro Zombies
Pig Destroyer - Cheerleader Corpses
Carcass - Genital Grinder

Thats about it. I need to do better covers.
