72Cool beans. Did you get a Supertramp lp with it?

It uses a 23.6 inch belt, you may want to pop for a new cartridge, try a cheaper Grado and hit the record shops!

74IfIhadaHI-FI...but I don't. My entire system is comprised low-end hand-me-downs and, like Steve, the turntable was formerly my lady's dad's. It's not much but its the best set-up I've ever had and it consistently let's me kick out the jams
The loud-speakers, however, are worth mentioning. I got them second hand from a friend who knows nothing about them. They may be hand made--no label, serial number, nothing, anywhere. I don't know shit about quality home audio, so I'm not able to draw any inferences regarding construction, era, origin/maker etc from close visual study. They sound alright, too but then they're connected by shitty speaker wire to my faithful but unspectacular Sony amp. The axiom is true, isn't it?--the one that stipulates that speakers only sound as good as the wire and components they're hooked up to??
I'd like to solicit some informed takes/opinions on these loud-speakers, so I'll try to post some pictures soon.

75Upstairs - some Best buy sale stuff mostly for TV sound or the music server, fed to a pair of Cerwin Vega 3-ways I got in the 70s. Plastic '80s BSR linear tracking turntable (love this turntable).
Downstairs - Thorens TD160, Stanton 680 HiFi cartridge, Shure M64 phono preamp, Sony MXP290 mixer, Southwest Technical Products 207/A power amps, Tannoy SGM 10B speakers.
- interconnects: mostly Switchcraft plugs, Belden 9451 cable, ADC PJ-390 patch bay. Switchcraft 18Q longframe patch cables (brass plated connectors for extra fuzziness).
No power conditioning, generic 14 gauge zip cord for speaker connections.

78Well all my hi fi is based around hand me down second or fifth owner gear.
A kenwood amp with cassette player and a sony turntable that my parents had for as long as I can remember
My PowerBookG4
A second hand pair of B&W speakers, but I dont know the make or model as the stickers on the back have fallen off and I cant find pics of them on the net. But they are amazing and beautiful. All I was told by the dealer was that they were the orchestral make.
They have that well broken in sound but the tweeters are still pretty crisp.

EDIT: this guy crapped out the other month. grabbed a Marantz 1060 on the cheap. the sound stage is certainly narrowed compared to the above, but the lows... they're BACK!
Marantz CD 5001
and a Powerbook
anyone know anything about the merit of "The Speed":
