This is obviously an attempt to scare kids off from this ridiculously unnecessary and thoroughly dangerous behaviour. Damn right these girls should have the fear of fucking god put into them. They beat a defenceless girl unconscious for half an hour? A group of them beat one girl up for absolutely no reason and they should let it slide because they didn't manage to kill her this time around?

They won't get life in jail. I doubt they'll even get jail terms. They shouldn't be tried as adults but they should frighten them to the point that they never consider doing anything so dangerous ever again. If that includes the threat of jail time, so be it. It's less shitty than being beaten unconscious for no reason at all.

Your definition of 'nothing' obviously differs from mine.

Life would of course be excessive.

But in the unlikely event of them getting it I still think I could spend a week - at least - thinking of worthier causes to champion than theirs.

i was just talking about this with a female friend of mine. i wondered why the one being attacked didn't fight back, or run or what.

this female friend said "girls don't really have the fight or flight response the way men have it." i said, ah, yeah, they have the stay there and die reflex. horror movies make so much more sense now.

Also, I had a pretty decent grasp on concepts such as "right and wrong" when I was a 15 or 16 year old female. This notion that teenagers and even children are incapable of knowing when they're doing something unacceptable or dangerous is ridiculous. Of course they should be tried as adults. So should their parents, as accessories.

First - this doesn't sound like just some typical hillbilly shit that went down because they were all socializing and then things happened to turn sour... not like they were all partying in the corn field, and then one girl picked a fight with another girl for looking at her boyfriend or whatever.

This was planned out - to meet up and jump the victim at a particular place (a place she apparently had perceived as "safe" - she had been staying there, with the supposed "friend", because of problems at home?) for the sole purpose of all ganging up on her and throwing a group beating (and videotaping it!)

You already got problems at home, and then you get this shit on top of it? Damn, but that is cold.

And then this was the icing on the cake:

After the beating, three of the girls drove the victim to another friend's house, where they told her, "If you go to the police, the next beating will be worse," the report states.

Talk about delusions of grandeur! Did they think they were hard organized crime thugs all of a sudden? "You snitch, and we'll rub you out?" Not likely.

I applaud the victim for being smart/brave enough to not buy into that line of bullshit. You fall for that, and then they'd know they've *completely* punked you, and then you could be marked as a punching bag for life.

Anyone who would fall for a bluff like that, and then live a chunk (or potentially all) of their life as a coward to such threats... that is just not living. You do what you gotta do and take your chances.

This shit is a national news item now. Guaranteed now if any of those little shits did throw her a second beating in the future, they should then expect to go away for a L-O-N-G time.

Should they be sent away for life? No, I guess not.

Should they get some form of lockup where they could be the one's getting punked - I wouldn't be against it.

She may not have had a choice about the police. If some reasonable adult, perhaps the other friend's parent, saw a child beat up like that they would take her to the hospital. Any child that shows up in a hospital with signs of a beating immediately sends up all the flags. As it should.
