Last November i bought Neal's smoke Vistalites off of him, and ever since have been working on lighting them up. I've figured out the most cosmic option: stringing small LED string lights through the washers on the screws that mount the lugs on the toms. Howevah, the string lights i initially used are kinda brittle, and some of the wires already snapped from being pulled too tight, so i'm playing with brands right now. But in the meantime, i got the kick drum reso head branding on point:

If it's not already trademarked, now might be the time.

The bass drum hole is aggressively non-concentric.Tivoli on the cheap! That's awesome and makes me want a see-through.

Crappy cell phone photo. You'd never know it but I finally had enough money to change the heads today. My kit is a Japanese Tama Rockstar with a Ludwig Acrolite snare. I have gradually been replacing the rag-tag assortment of cymbals that I got from the kit's previous owner with 2002s. This would be easier if I wasn't perpetually broke. I am making do with 14 404 hi-hats and a 20 Ziljian Amir II ride as my left crash. I mean, at least they're all the same alloy, if nothing else. Someday, I'm going to replace the hats with 15 ones, and the ride with a proper 20 medium crash.I don't know how y'all keep your cymbals so clean. Wiping them off doesn't seem to do shit for me.I've got to find something to go where the other rack tom would be since I don't want to have two. Maybe a cowbell. Yeah, then I could Corky Laing the shit out of my music.

I sure don't need another drum kit but a 1978 Premier Soundwave, 4-piece in polychromatic silver for $175 was too tempting.3-ply birch with re-rings. It's funny, all the Premier and Beverley floor toms are listed in the old catalogs as 16 deep but they're all 15. I like the shorter look, very leggy. Maybe I'll get some little high heels for the feet. The kit was really dirty, took hours to clean up, but I like doing stuff like that. It sounds fantastic. I've been wailing on it all week. Joy.

Both my wife and I have been wanting to start learning how to play drums, so we got this new Mapex Rebel kit for our practice spot and bought some Sabian B8 cymbals because the ones that came with the kit sucked horribly. Got about $300 in it total. It's a surprisingly really good sounding kit, and I think it'll serve us well.
