It is VERY not crap, but I can't vote on that one song alone, so I'll abstain for now.
Either For Your Special Sweetheart (the album from which "Savory" comes) or the self-titled one are good starting points. Their earlier Dischord albums are more straightforward post-punk than what they would do later, but are also good (though I find Novelty to be weak comparatively).

Before they were in Guitar Center and the like, I meant. I don't remember seeing Schecters in Musician's Friend back then, for instance.

A minute,a second,a half-life,a minus,a secondreminder,selective attention.It's secession time,paid for by cutting backwards.It's election time,letting every insult be accepted into history.

I made a post about this in General Discussion, but, I thought I should also mention here that Zach has a new instrumental band called BELLS ‰¥ that have just released their forthcoming vinyl debut, There Are Crashes, in digital form on their Bandcamp page.

I've been giving their first and last albums some attention lately, and contrary to my expectations they sound like not-quite-agressive, not-quite-melodic early 90's alt rock, with differing degrees of finish. It's a bit like Seaweed, a band I really dislike, but with less energy. I know some people who idolize Jawbox, so I was expecting to find something more interesting to chew into. I also have ...Sweetheart around the house, though it doesn't bother me like the other records, it has never really clicked with me, but I consider he jury to be out for the moment. Still, bordering on a Crap vote. From roughly the same era I've been enjoying my also recently acquired Shudder to Think and Monorchid CDs far, far more.

I actually listened to it right after I wrote that and enjoyed it, will be giving that record more time.

Funny, I'd take the s/t over Sweetheart any day. Bill's songs on the latter, in particular, I find pretty weak. Great guitarist & bassist, kinda boring songwriter.I'm not sure what folks around here dislike about the s/t, actually. I get that the mastering is in less-than-good taste, but the songs and performances are just ridiculous. Shit, what can you say about Barocas' drumming?

That was probably a mistake, agreed, but I don't hear any alternative bands having done anything like what Jawbox was doing at the time. When I got into them in 97 (admittedly late), it was precisely because they sounded nothing like anything else that was being shoved down my throat by that scene. I don't hear anything cliche on that record. Perhaps my points of reference are limited.
