Uh, no.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think in the wake of the Janet Jackson tittie showing and Howard Stern's difficulties with Clearchannel, Zappa's hard work in defending free speech is sorely missed! Zappa and Stern were pretty good pals, from what I understand. I think Stern's humor is retarded, but he has a right to say what he says. Someone has to push the limits...

But I think a great case can be made for the excellence of Zappa without bringing up his political work.

BTW, I did check out those clips on iFilm. I love it when Zappa explains why "hot for teacher" is enjoyable, and they ask him why he's frowning. He says "I'm not happy because I'm sitting here with you." Fucking brilliant come back. Dissing the Crossfire crew deserves a "not crap" vote, in the most major way.

Yeah, name dropping Zappas on a thread about Zappa. How gratuitous of me! Diva is quite attractive, but I don't want to pay $200 for one of her hats.

Show some respect, man. I played keyboards for Fugazi...

And I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and guess that them kicking you out five weeks into the tour had nothing to do with you drinking a shandy.

There were a few reasons. The blatant use of alcohol didn't help... But I think the effort it took to set up and transport my gear was also an issue. Gotta hand it to the Fugazi guys... When they wanted a keyboard player, they wanted the big Frankenstein show with the modular stuff and all that. I mean, could you see Fugazi rockin' with some dork playing a Casio? Then, after a while, they realized what all of this involved. They gave it a go, and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

Seriously, stop fucking saying that. If you treat people with respect, you end up with it. If you keep talking about playing in some band over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, people just think you're a douche. a lying douche.

e.g. if say, steve were to tell me that he really loved the eagles (blatantly untrue, sorry) and his point was valid because he played guitar in Big Black, I would still think the Eagles were a sack of rotten dongs. His background has nothing to do with my taste in music.

You have interesting things to say and I appreciate your commitment to music. I too like drawing a line in the sand and sticking to my opinions about music, but seriously at this point, just shut up about the fucking keyboards.

I guess Zappa didn't write very good music at all, then.

so not crap, just for the patch. if he didn't have the patch, crap.

He is, to use a clich鬠one of the GREAT American composers.

ok, i change my vote. crap.

Just for the sake of persnickity correctness, his moustache style is an "imperial". Unfortunately, a co-worker of mine has one, so I can't very well grow one. But it is a good facial hair configuration. I've just gone for the regular prog dork D&D beard. It adds about +2 to my armor.

I think this co-worker is moving on to another job, since he is bored with making six figures and doing nothing all day (?!?) But once he's gone, I'll be sportin' the imperial quick-fast.

Zappa fans are the deadheads of music geeks.

The guy's music had sincerity issues.

So by your own admission you own 3 Zappa recordings, which on your own terms and by your own line of argumentation means:

1. You own crappy records
2. You are akin to a deadhead
3. You enjoy music with sincerity issues (like King Crimson)

Wow.

At the start of this thread I was thinking "Hmm, I've never heard this dudes music, I think I'll check it out."

Now I dont think I ever want to hear it.

Maybe we really should start enforcing the rule whereby you cant explain your vote.
