I mean, it's ok - but the guitar player is really, really not the guitar player he/she thinks he/she is. It's kinda embarrassing at certain points listening to her/him sandbagging those half-assed licks together.

Am I the only one who gets this impression?

I'm with you on this. The cult of Boris precedes the quality of rockage for some 'fans'. That said, when they nail it, they do so right on my balls. By which I mean it hits the mark.

I can't help but want Boris and DMBQ to go through some kind of Vice Versa-esque exchange where we see a rock swap take place.

Not crap, though I not as cool with their current 'Smile' release as I am with a lot of their other stuff.

i'm not sure, to discuss this i think we need to split it between "drone boris" and "boris - otherwise"... when boris is doing the sustained drones, they are a very powerful and precise band. when they do the other stuff (the kyuss-sounding stuff), it's cool i guess, i've def enjoyed some of that, but not nearly as deep as their drones.

The longer they go on, the more I respect them. It would have been so easy for them to churn out album after album of the slow motion stuff, but they're prepared to accept the possibility of alienating a few fans by doing what they like, when they feel like it.

I'm certainly not in love with everything they've done (and in fact the more out there, psychedelic stuff is my favourite) but I love the fact that they change so much all the time and you can never be quite sure what you're going to get. The last couple of years have seen both some of my favourite and least favourite of their albums so I don't subscribe to the idea that they've declined in quality. Fuck, they're just a good, tight band, who've done a lot of great music, stick to their guns, do what they like, and are really, really nice people to boot. How can that ever be crap?
Don't shun it. Fun it.

Which version do you have?

I have the Japanese vinyl that a friend of mine was able to score for me over there, but I have yet to play it. The songs are totally different than this MP3 version of the album I have been listening to. Song titles are different as are running times..??

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?
