This Betty Harris take on the Lee Dorsey classic has real "entering city limits at a steady clip with the windows down" vibes:

Toussaint getting uncharacteristically loose on the pee-ann-err (he knew the song well, so why not?). Members of the Meters as backing band (need I say more?). And the added refrain at the end doubles down on the main hook to brilliant effect.

If just once in my life I was gonna cave in and overpay for a RSD release, this Soul Jazz "Ninja Turtles green" double LP of Betty Harris's best was as good a candidate as any.

The Soft Pink Truth does stuff that I suggested to the artist could be called "deep microhouse," and they did not correct me, so I'm going with that.

"Is It Going To Get Any Deeper Than This? (Dark Room Mix)" (2022)

"Fire Island of the Mind" (2015)

Despite the cheesy vocal sample this ROCKS.
